The New Deal wasn’t built on a promise that there would be “no ceiling” for the richest Americans.

Quite the opposite, in fact. FDR knew its politics could only work if he singled out the rich as villains and knew that its policies could only work if the rich paid their fair share in taxes.

Deviled eggs for The Game. This is tray 1/2, with half the batch being standard deli style and the other being jalapeño popper style. Big hit all around!

I wish it didn’t feel so unusual and inspiring to see a leader treating everyone like they matter and saying that we have a responsibility to help each other
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

The good news: the president has pardoned the turkey.

The bad news: two hours later the turkey was arrested for running a ponzi scheme and committing acts of gross sexual imposition.

And I need you now tonight, I fuckin' need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight, we'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right, 'cause we'll never be wrong
Together, we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all the time
Chickity China, the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin’
Watchin’ ‘X-Files’ with no lights on
We’re dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man’s in this one
Like Harrison Ford I’m getting frantic
Like Sting I’m tantric
Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy
Like Kurosawa I make

If you’re mad Zohran went to the White House and charmed the president without compromising *any* part of his platform for NYC in the process, I need you to (1) get a grip, (2) learn how politics works, and (3) think ahead beyond two months from now.

Let’s walk and chew gum simultaneously, folks.

At some point—probably over winter break—I will watch the new Burns doc on the Revolution. But I won’t be happy about it.

Before you sharpen your pitchforks, understand that I come at this from the left and there’s only so much sentimental American Exceptionalism I can take in one sitting.
