The Ecological Cost of AI Is Much Higher Than You Think - Truthdig
As the demands of AI grow, each generation of microchips requires more energy, minerals and water to produce, driving a ruinous cycle.

A beautiful beach walk in southern Australia:

But the joy quickly turns to horror when we see more and more dead animals, including dozens of freshly killed abalone.

Australia’s beaches are revealing the silent devastation of marine ecosystems.

Great news. Such a pity Australia was not be a leader on this... a very great shame, in fact.
Canada has long been committed to a two-state solution — an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security.

My statement on Canada’s recognition of a Palestinian state:

Productivity is a “materialistic view of how our lives could be better”. So true.
Finally an economist calling out the ‘productivity’ caper. Don’t they always just mean just profits anyway?
#rossgittens sees sense again.
Really are the only people who whine about productivity are people who don’t actually do any of the work in question?

Any good alternatives to Lightroom? I want to get out of the Adobe ecosystem. I see people recommending Affinity Photo, but I guess that is more of a Photoshop replacement.

People will do anything to avoid reducing their meat consumption.
Regulators approve a product grown from animal cells in a factory setting, putting Australia among only a handful of countries around the world to have deemed it safe for sale, while several countries and US states have banned it. Will people be lining up to give it a taste?

A Harvard study of IDF data finds that there are 377,000 people unaccounted for in Gaza.

That estimate is six times the number of people normally cited as killed.

Genocide.

Let’s not be surprised by the weaselling of Senator Wong.

In a position of leadership she prevaricated on marriage equality and delayed that justice for a decade.

A friend to Mathias Cormann.

Essentially a politician who will say anything that’s convenient at the time, not a leader.

No baby formula has entered Gaza for four months because of Israel’s genocidal blockades. There is nothing left to feed babies and their mothers can not produce milk as they themselves are starving. There is no defending what Israel is doing. No justification.

We're all aware that the Qld LNP has no plan to reduce the state's emissions. They think climate change is a belief system; a religion. If you believe in God he'll fix whatever problem there may be.

We don't have time for this BS. You accept the science or you don't. #qldpol
