Very queer, unfortunately here, getting used to it. (he/him). Owns Majestic Mess Designs and makes art. Void screaming, media analysis, spoilers, GY!BE, Critical Role, queer media. Loves to draw brains symbolic of my chronic pain.

Here's a little review of since features and cultural norms for newer users:

- There is no algorithm. Liking is nice but does little to boost visibility. If you like it, share it.

- Conversely, the only way for garbage to spread is by sharing it. Don't hate-share to dunk.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, especially with respect to how students use AI. The sycophancy is a design choice that seems to increase engagement and screen time. I think people forget this is a product and the goal is not for it to work well, it’s to max engagement.

So people demand "AI" sycophancy, refuse to interact w/ *less* sycophantic "AI", & then get increasingly ill-disposed toward interacting w/ other human beings, preferring, again, an "AI" system that is actively locking them into a loop of skills dependency, bias confirmation, & hostility.

Preliminary results show that the current framework of "AI" makes ppl less likely to help or seek help from other humans, or to seek to soothe conflict, and that people actively prefer that framework to any others, literally serving to make them more dependent on it.
Sycophantic AI Decreases Prosocial Intentions and Promotes Dependence
Both the general public and academic communities have raised concerns about sycophancy, the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) excessively agreeing with or flattering users. Yet, beyond isolat...

Probably related; would be worth studying if we were ever going to be into equity or fixing the existing system:

you know what doesn't push back on shite execuspeak? AI.

you know who does push back? the nd working for you, earnestly trying to do what you say y'all are about.

That tracks with my experience in/around both gov and publishers like Elsefuckier. No one doing jobs was clawing for AI; no subjects of UX research nor product research were clamoring for it. But lots of internal execs wanted it bc the hype of the savings they'd get.

It killed legit gains in ML

…Oh. Oh no. Oh no nonono. …And yet: of course.

"Gen AI" tells you the thing you are statistically most likely to accept so you keep using it— & research shows that most people who like "AI" like it *Because* it sycophantically tells them their ideas are great & should defs be implemented. So… Yeah.
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

How low we have sunk as a country. The US Department of Defense is now run by a rabid war criminal.

Ordering the execution of helpless survivors of an attack is ALWAYS a war crime, whether they civilian or military.

Pure, mindless, barbarism.

our media is so obsessed with the five famous assholes who unapologetically fucked up instead of all the people who didn't

what about everyone who doesn't "need" a second chance because they didn't expose themselves or assault anyone or move a former student into their house right after graduation?

Fiction show answer: The Mighty Nein (Animated).

We're only 4 episodes into the first season but it's SO good. It really brings out the essence of the source material by understanding what it doesn't really need (or what won't serve it) while also bringing in background stories we couldn't see.
Name your tv show of the year.
