I can only recommend how I’ve been paying attention, which is reading the Times of Israel and Haaretz English, which provide useful Israeli perspectives

Now that the hostages have been released, and there is a cease-fire, is anyone here gonna acknowledge that Hamas also has agency? That Hamas also could have done different things that didn’t prolong the war? Or, for that matter, start it?

Right, I forgot. Only Israel and Biden had agency.

Wanting more housing is apparently a thing you can blame on the Jews now.

As I said this morning, this place deeply sucks on the day the hostage were released.

There’s a lot of “Biden could have gotten the same deal, if only he wanted to.”

And a lot more bullshit suggesting that Israel’s existence, rather than the behavior of its government, is what’s at issue.
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
This is a terrible, thoughtless take.

It’s Green Lanternism and ignores the fact that Israelis have domestic politics too
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
It also means that you fundamentally believe that the only people who have domestic politics are Americans.
nied.bsky.social
I mean let's face facts if you're saying this proves Biden could have gotten a ceasefire you either haven't paid attention to what's been happening in Gaza since Trump came into office or you never cared about Palestinians at all (or both).
dinosaurbob.bsky.social
The only reason BiBi agreed to the ceasefire now is because he’s down to, around, 20 living hostages and he can’t afford to let them all die. Not unless he wants to spend the rest of his life trying to not wind up like Rabin.
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
Israel had domestic politics also. And the failure to understand that had led to gargantuan strategic and messaging misunderstandings and mistakes.

I have spent almost no time at the Bad Place for months, but it is way better right now for following the hostage release stories.

That is inherently bad for this place.

The point is that using “Pharisees” in this context is an anti-Jewish caricature- as it was intended to be by the authors of the NT. And had caused harm to Jews for centuries
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
I understand the positive reactions of Israelis to Trump.

That said, the ultimate rupture between Israelis and the non-Orthodox diaspora will be because of that.

This is not a great place to follow the news on the day the hostages were released…..

Once again, the Mariners' offense is giving me flashback trauma to the 2025 NY Mets (except they have MLB quality pitching).

Watching the ALCS between the two expansion teams from 1977 makes me happy because I was a kid becoming obsessed with baseball at the time. (Yes, I know Ruppert Jones was the 1st pick in the expansion draft to the Mariners)

Side point is that I would argue that the Karaites are also descended from the the Pharisees and were a response to rabbinic Judaism in 7th-9th century.

But that’s a quibble (and interesting intellectual rabbit hole) and your larger point is correct.
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
Then I’m a weirdo….oh wait, no. I’m just someone who has read Pirkei Avot - which is literally printed in the siddur I used yesterday - that has the transmission lineage of the Torah (hint: there are Pharisees involved)
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
When I understood the Mishnah and the NT were roughly contemporaneous, it was a key for me to understanding the NT
dennisyedwab.bsky.social
Jewish day school kid here. I knew who the Pharisees were and that they were my ancestors when I was a 2nd grader. I had no idea Jesus or the New Testament had a view of them until I read the NT in college.

So, yeah, we Jews are pretty clear about this.

Every time Judaism becomes a national topic -- which seems to be every day -- it's like a free-for-all of gentiles confidently being publicly wrong about us.

I am celebrating the ceasefire & the release of hostages and Trump deserves credit but…I’m gonna need Israeli commentators not to tell Jewish Trump opponents in the US that “we have Trump all wrong”

No, we don’t. You see a slice of him, we see him whole. Appreciate your slice; don’t impose it on us

It’s interesting because Witkoff and Ben Gvir each know what the other is talking about, while Kushner’s comment is completely off-point.
