"The government have actively avoided looking for evidence Russia interfered."

The Intelligence & Security Committee's Stewart Hosie said the government didn't investigate alleged Russian interference in the Brexit vote, and no one wanted to touch this "with a ten-foot pole".

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."

Heron surveys the world and is unimpressed
The head and body of a heron looking cross. Its body is grey, with white lower breast and throat. The beak is yellow underneath and black and grey above. Its eye has a yellow ring round a black centre.

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

As someone who thinks about standards of evidence for detecting research misconduct, I found this lecture by Frederick Schauer on his 2022 book The Proof very thought-provoking. He approaches it from perspective of a lawyer looking at use of evidence in everyday life. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB6q...

Amazing how antivaxxers ignore large body of evidence & expert opinion, but when they find something that they think supports their view?

Dr. Oransky warned of consequences for self-governance failure: "If you don't self-police, if you don't correct the record, if you don't sanction people who commit fraud, [...] someone else will come in and do that. And it very well could be a government that you don't like."
Is Science Retracting Enough Papers?
As paper mills and fraud proliferate, experts warn the retraction rate should reach 2% of published literature—ten times current levels.

Hope to see you there! ICYMI: thousands of design registrations have been sold as “patents” as an explicit ploy for academics to pad their CVs. This is still happening! For example, here's a design registration filed 20 Sep 2025 for "MACHINE LEARNING BASED SECURITY DEVICE FOR CLOUD COMPUTING":
A green computer monitor mounted to a box. The box features numerous buttons and panels, oversized ethernet ports and a panel of every type of USB recievers. The whole assembly is mounted on four spindly-looking robot legs with wheels.
