How come reply guys, when called out, always resort to "couldn't resist a joke" or "just a joke"? There's no humor, nothing funny, just being a pest.

I wrote a story about guys being pests, and it starts with "just a joke." It doesn't end with a laugh though. Their interactions never do.

Daily thought about writing novels

I’m glad I figured out that I actually make the book great when I revise it. My 1st draft is ideally a joyful race to the end, and to do that, I have to trust myself. But great ideas happen after that too! And they can’t happen until after the 1st draft is done.

(2/3) we don't need to center that in the conversation for us both to be aware of it. By contrast White folks will sometimes bust into these talks with a breathless "how can you center that when (bad thing)!" No fam, we been knew that. The difference I think is in how our history is littered with

One thing I love about writing regular SFF book reviews is it forces me to delve into the wealth and variety of audacious fiction being published right now. Every month I find dozens of fascinating, unique titles and try to read as many as I can.

I wish it were way easier to broaden your horizons.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

As a psychologist and a person with ADHD, I believe there needs to be more honest conversation of the behaviors and habits that reinforce maladaptive functioning. Dopamine detoxing, intentionally disconnecting and not engaging in rapid dopamine seeking behavior is a necessary practice

100%, it is because they can't freely be bigots. The problem has never been people thinking they're bigots. It's that people think bigots are bad people and they don't want to be seen as bad people
Are they mad because they’re bigots but lacking in self-awareness? Or are they mad that they can’t freely be bigots in America in 2025?

I barely listened to #audiobooks until I made one, and now I’m hooked. I agree with the NYPL’s head librarian: it’s different than reading a book but a charm in itself. I think of it as an additive, why increased accessibility benefits us all. #booksky

Just hit publish on something close to my heart. "The Gospel According to Uhura" is a novel about an Afghan refugee in the UK who loses his faith and tries to replace it with the ethics of the Federation.

While I am glad Pillars of Eternity is getting interesting updates. I am sad we see very few CRPGs like it. Disco Elysium is one of the best games I ever played and shows how diverse the genre can be with low or no combat. The storytelling is so deeply contingent on the gameplay, & I love it

Digging into the data of what's taking place with Black women unemployment and this graph is pretty damning.

You can see the EXACT month Black women's unemployment begins to splinter and that what hit us FIRST is now coming for all other women. This is #TheDoubleTax.

I have been playing this on repeat while working on the erotic #horror story. The line "They'll make you a star but don't really need you" is such a central part of the cuckquean and horror overlaps

Whoa: A federal court just barred Texas from using its new congressional map, drawn by the GOP to target Dems.

"Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map."

Court says the old map must be used in 2026. Appeals are certain. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Please continue making calls to Visa and Mastercard, because they are working alongside conservative legislators to crack down on free speech and expression!

A dual pronged offense requires a dual pronged defense!
#SaveSpeech

starting Nov 1st we're entering the holiday season, which is a big stress point for big businesses like Mastercard and Visa. These Paypros havent stopped cracking down on Adult Content, so we need to jump back into calling them in full force again!

I'm going to say something controversial it's a theory I'm still developing... Highly intelligent neurodivergent men, especially ones born into privilege, have a tendency to weaponize their social deficits in ways neuridivergent women have never been allowed to

This is the only bright side to the senate Dems caving. The GOP was damned if they do & damned if they didn’t.

Take your nausea medicine…republicans are going to approach the files being released with a type of spin we’ve never seen before.
BIG NEWS: Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva will finally be sworn in as a member of Congress tomorrow.

She is likely to be the 218th vote on the Epstein discharge petition, which would force a full vote to release the Epstein files in their entirety.

This reminds me of one of my favorite interviews where the white supremacist basically said that the only reason Asian test scores are higher than whites are because white people are lazy. The exceptions are morphed into a mythology that further justifies authoritarianism
Yeah, but how stupid are you to seek ‘knowledge’ on the basis of something decisively proven false, wholly concocted, concocted before ANY understanding of heritability or genes or DNA—AND entirely self-serving on the part of its inventors. When every single scientific advance proves it MORE WRONG?
