People continue to call COVID advocates’ pleas for masking “unreasonable”.

Yet people who’ve already been disabled by COVID have no choice but to live with the “unreasonable” burdens of constant COVID safety.

My latest:

Beyond all reason
Long COVID patients are constantly harangued about our requests for COVID safety. Yet what we're asking for is far less than what we're called on to do to survive.

This is 'Rakotzbrücke Devil’s Bridge', commissioned in 1860 in the German village of Kromlau in Gablenz on the estate of Friedrich Herrmann Rötschke, now a public park.

Its purpose is ornamental: to form a perfect circle with its own reflection when light & wind permit.

THREAD. When my parents' cat Bridget went missing, my dad, to try to ease his worry, painted her on a variety of historical adventures. These soon multiplied. Significantly.

After much nagging, he has had some postcards printed of this brilliant series:

Keep spreading viruses that open you up to secondary bacterial infections. Best plan ever.

New York health officials have confirmed the first locally transmitted case of the chikungunya virus which causes high fever, joint pain and fatigue.

It’s usually a tropical virus, but there are now infected mosquitoes spreading in New York. (NYT)

You can declare yourself against “universal public masking”, but that means I can declare you a dick.

Long COVID absolutely wrecked my shit because people just couldn’t see themselves considering the health of others. Knowing you’re comfortable with that tells me everything I need to know.
dcapto.bsky.social
Yes! Exactly. Plus, it humiliates these “tough guys” being filmed roughing up and handcuffing a cute inflatable animal. They must feel so embarrassed watching these adorable animals dance and shake their rumps in their face. Ridiculously good trouble!

I’m very very tired of “living in fear” being lobbed at maskwearers by people who frequently say they can’t wear one because no one else around them is.

Living in fear is ignoring science and endangering lives and your own health because you’re terrified of not fitting in.

Autism $peaks raised ~$34m in 2024 and spent 1% on family services and grants to help Autistic individuals. They spend approximately 25% of their budget on lobbying and another 25% on research (primarily on genetic testing and causation, i.e. eugenics). They aren’t trying to make our lives better.
mbrobergmoffitt.bsky.social
Autism $peaks is the largest and most popular Autism organization (among allistics), who continues to be 100% in support of ABA. They have lobbyists who push ABA as the “gold standard Autism treatment.” It utilizes same practices as “conversion therapy,” which is currently banned in 28 countries.

ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is the “gold standard” of “treatment” for Autism, and was created by the person as “Conversion therapy” (see Lovaas) with similar techniques and goals. It’s torture that continues to have widespread support and acceptance.

There are a good few Hannah Arendt quotes that I love but this is probably my fav:

‘The greatest enemy of authority, therefore, is contempt, and the surest way to undermine it is laughter.’

Malachite Kingfisher - an absolute gem!

📍Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

#Birds #NaturePhotography #Tanzania 🪶
Small, gem-like wetland kingfisher. Shows geographical variation, with most birds having orange underparts, but birds in some parts of the range have a white belly. Found in almost all habitats with water, including streams, rivers, lakes, rice paddies, and lagoons. Sits motionless for long periods before plunging to the water to snatch prey.

New study just dropped linking shingles reactivation and dementia risk.

You know what reactivates shingles? Covid.

Want to avoid it? Wear a well fitted respirator and give yourself the best odds of avoiding Covid infection.

There’s also a shingles vaccine which may help reduce risk!

Harbord bike lane is ALMOST finished! Grace to Ossington is the remaining work to be done by early November

Can’t wait to ride my favourite route across west downtown again with no treacherous potholes AND feeling safer from cars & trucks 🙌 Looking good, Toronto!

This year I am especially grateful that my ancestors immigrated to Canada instead of U.S.

Although, I'm still really pissed off and upset about the residential schools and the rest of the related travesties and horrors

That tells us a lot about how Walmart can "turn a profit" in the US: Not just by clever marketing, but also by exploiting the people that work for them.

Again, they did that so egregiously that German lawmakers had to stop them violating workers rights.

That was enough for Walmart to pull out.
