Just got off a call with Paul Rothrock and I think this quote probably sums it it: “It's fucking cool to be a Sounder.”

A couple months ago, @hyperfixedpod.bsky.social collaborated with baker and dessert detective Claire Saffitz on recreating a beloved cake, simply by descriptions and photos of that cake. And now Claire has a video on how to make it! Good luck and happy munchin’

I’m quoting this because it is a very fair point for which I have an answer: The first thing is to recognize that in a democracy there is no such thing as “ the majority.” Instead, there are many and multiple overlapping majorities that can be assembled from different parts of the whole.
Most of the criticisms are fairly weak, but he does make the valid point that Americans are not as progressive as we wish they were. How do we achieve these goals when the majority of people are so ignorant and wrong about everything that they voted for Trump?

The trickiest aspect of this piece, based on a poster for the 1927 movie 'Metropolis', was making acrylic paint look like dry media.

My home timeline.

I was experimenting a bit while looking at the network tab. After refreshing the page, I can get an infinite scroll...but it appears that at some point the app just stops making calls to app.bsky.feed.getTimeline. So maybe the issue is long-lived page views?

@deck.blue Is there a way to enable something like infinite scroll? I pretty quickly hit the bottom of my home column and don't see a way to load more (older) posts. Perhaps there is something obvious I am missing?

Thanks for all you do!

This story for the New Yorker is the culmination of many years of reporting on and thinking about one thing: What's the deal with pitching? It was nice to reconnect with people I know from the baseball world, and I have now seen the inside of a person's elbow.

Baseball Reaches Its Breaking Point
An elbow-injury epidemic has become an existential threat to the sport, prompting the M.L.B. to brainstorm new solutions, such as the use of a heavier ball.

Broke: Star Trek says humans will abandon all religion in the future.

Woke: Dune says religion will continue to be both a source of strength and a tool of control for oppressed peoples.

Bespoke: Babylon 5 says we'll get MORE religions, and Jews will have to sort out what alien foods are kosher.

What if the secret to winning elections is somehow Trump's syntax. We need a guy to say stuff like "But we're going to abolish billionaires and we'll be doing it very soon. They'll be paying very high taxes but it'll be very fair. And frankly they haven't paid taxes in a very long time"
