It’s shocking how few people know about the I-9 process, despite filling one out at every legitimate job you’ve ever had.

Add that to the list of things that the average American doesn’t know about our broken immigration system.

This business might have never experienced this before, but this is the “normal” way that unauthorized employment is supposed to be investigated. I-9s have always been subject to administrative inspection by the feds.

Granted, it should be more like a tax audit than a SWAT raid.
DHS employees entered our store this afternoon and served us a Notice of Inspection, demanding copies of I9 forms for each employee.

In 27 years as shopkeepers, we have never been subjected to this type of investigation.

America has a housing shortage. Every single housing proposal you see that is not "build more housing" will have the primary effect of pushing up the prices of existing housing, and is therefore, in reality, a plan to enrich current homeowners. In conclusion, build more housing.

How many ICE officers’ marriages do you think are falling apart right now?

Yup. Here we are folks: A CBS News article has been labeled as “Firinge Media & Disinfo” by @skywatch.blue
BREAKING: The ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good last week in Minneapolis, Jonathan Ross, suffered internal bleeding to the torso following the incident, according to two U.S. officials briefed on his medical condition.

I just can't come up with a scenario where having a gun would help me survive a situation.

A lot of the performative gun nuts who carry seem to ignore the fact the only legal use of deadly force is to protect human life. You can't use it threaten people, and you can't use it to protect property.
as a small person who has spent a ton of time traveling alone without ever feeling the need to carry a gun, I also think about this a lot
As a small woman I think it’s pathetic to feel the need to carry a gun everywhere to feel safe. If I don’t feel the need how tf do these men that think they’re so big and tough.

Isn’t a bruise technically “internal bleeding”?

Like every other Trump scandal that's too vulgar to meet daytime TV standards, I bet a lot of people won't even see this one.

A sitting president saying "fuck you" and flipping off an autoworker would've been considered a scandal in the pre-Trump era.

Not to mention that MREs are obscenely expensive for garrison use.

TL;DR: DOGE screwed up our missile defense and now we'll pay more to fix it than DOGE saved in the first place.

Wow. Statements by central bank officials are the most workshoped and careful communications known to humans. They know that each word, and even the tone used for paticular words, can cause major economic and market swings.
Jerome Powell: "This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation."

Have you ever heard of the black-white mortality crossover?

Before about 82, black men have higher age-specific probabilities of dying than white men.

Between roughly 82–86, the gap closes.

After 86, the pattern actually reverses: white men become more likely to die at each age than black men.

When NIMBYs say that California is full and their cities can’t accommodate more housing, they are saying that queer people trying to get out of red states are on their own.
New research confirms what many of us see: there's a large internal migration of LGBTQ people in the US, especially trans people, to friendlier states & cities.
Since 11/2024, 9% of all trans people have moved to another state, 43% have considered moving.

The urban vs rural thing is weird, only a very small number of US states have a majority rural population: Mississippi, West Virginia, Maine, and Vermont. No states are less than 1/3rd urban, and 21 states (plus DC and Puerto Rico) have over 75% of their population living in urban areas.
