The social base of fascism remains the same throughout history
[Jimmy is explaining to Reggie what kinds of people his secret army will be against]
Jimmy Anderson: Wreckers of law and order. Reginald Perrin: You realise the sort of people you're going to attract, don't you, Jimmy? Thugs, bully-boys, psychopaths, sacked policemen, security guards, sacked security guards, racialists, Paki-bashers, queer-bashers, Chink-bashers, anybody-bashers, rear Admirals, queer admirals, Vice Admirals, fascists, neo-fascists, crypto-fascists, loyalists, neo-loyalists, crypto-loyalists.

Vice President JD Vance on Sunday said there will be deeper cuts to the federal workforce the longer the government shutdown goes on, adding to the uncertainty facing hundreds of thousands who are already furloughed without pay amid the stalemate in Congress.

I have the same attitude to the impressive revival of Hebrew as the vernacular (Irish nationalists could only dream :( )

These positions add up to a coherent whole, viz: "wages in the US should be much, much lower"
dieworkwear.bsky.social
It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

This is hilarious, but you just know that when the Lord pulls the lever and he tumbles down the chute, his fanbase will swear to God that an eagle perched on his grave and a lightning bolt carved out the Aramaic for SON OF GOD on his tombstone

President Trump tells reporters aboard Air Force One that he doesn’t think he’s going to get into heaven.

“I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to get me into heaven.”

(I isolated Trump’s voice)
daphnelawless.com
Nah, this still fits into the CS Lewis category, that anyone can get into heaven but they have to get off their bullshit

Imagine how hilarious it would be to see the ghost of Trump being confronted with his bullshit

Muldoon was nothing if not an aura farmer
daphnelawless.com
Very similar here. Actual tankies are a tiny minority but broad "campism" is simply the common sense of the Left
daphnelawless.com
"The aura farmers have tremendous sway over the populace — that is, over normal people acting normal. But they are by nature very vulnerable to shitposters. Meanwhile, shitposting has little efficacy when deployed against normal people behaving normally."

For USAmericans curious about how their politics are playing out overseas, here's a post on a local football fan forum (re: World Cup 2026) from a character who is DEFINITELY NOT "left"
As someone who would normally be quite likely to go, there are so many red flags for this WC that I'm seriously looking at avoiding it:

- Lots of travel, more so then Russia
- The world's most inept boarder force
- Dynamic pricing
- Trump
- Crazy expensive accommodation
- Batshit crazy police
- Expensive flights
- Family members unable to go due to being born in Iran. This for me is the worst point. Russia let everyone in with a valid ticket which became your visa, even Ukrainians and Americans.

I quote his piece on Rudyard Kipling over and over again because it is so relevant to the current era. Esp. the bit about how Kipling was a conservative, a thing which no longer exists
grayathena.bsky.social
It's a shame Orwell is so often reduced to 1984 and Animal Farm, which are so commonly abused to have become worthless cliches, when his non-fiction is so interesting and still relevant today. His obsession with language and politics is particularly interesting to think about now

Going to repeat this: The reason Nazis make memes like this is to get leftist crossover and inspire others to make their own copies.

Is there any way that you can disable quote tweets except for people who leave their replies open to you? Because I like being quote tweeted but not when they're misrepresenting my views

There's an angle on this I haven't seen elsewhere - sorry, it's from a sectarian Trot group, but according to them the Engler campaign is spearheaded by Socialist Action, whose US sister group was kicked out of the Fourth International for absolutely gross campism bolshevik.org/statements/i...

To their credit, the young Leninists around me ruefully agree that contemporary radical-Left politics have a kind of contempt for skilled labour

But "skilled labour", organised for itself, has to be the basis on which a REAL alternative program to neoliberalism and fascism can be built.
daphnelawless.com
It's become a cliche that Trumpism is "Right-Maoism", but there's a kernel of truth there, in the idea of "politics in command", the idea that expertise is unnecessary when you have the right ideology

It is no coincidence that "soft Maoism" is now the dominant form of radical-Left politics
daphnelawless.com
The terrible thing about Trumpism is that it's "proof of concept" that if you gain power in the liberal democratic state, and you have enough buy in from the ruling class, you can get the liberal democratic state to commit seppuku.

Without a theory of workers power, that probably sounds attractive
daphnelawless.com
The question of program is: WHO, exactly, is going to carry out these reforms you want?

If the answer is "the existing State institutions, reformed", congratulations, that's social democracy, but stop pretending you're Leninists

If the answer is anything else, plz show how we get there from here
