If it wasn’t for bad faith, this administration wouldn’t have any faith at all.

There was civilization in the Americas before the settlers arrived. The other work being performed here is to erase that and present settlement as the arrival of civilization instead of the annihilation of another
Neither Trump, nor half of his cabinet have “ancestors” who were in North America before the revolution. I’d guess that less than half of current US citizens do. “Your ancestors” is doing a lot of implicitly white Christian nationalist work here.

Not a political consultant but I’m not sure “standing up to trump doesn’t work” is the best midterm message, even if if accurately represents senate dems position. Not much point in putting you in power then bsky.app/profile/atru...

Enjoying Columbo, an endlessly rewatchable series. Falk's sly timing raises the level of every scene, as in "Blueprint for Murder," where he questions the arrogant architect, drops an incriminating fact, then reaches in his coat pocket and asks, "Ya want half a candy bar?"

Suicidal for centrists to be begging for moderation when now would be a great time to pass some big, ambitious policies and remind people why Democrats are better than Republicans.

Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

Pundits say the problem is that Democrats fail to represent the people—but the real problem is that our political system fails to represent the people.
The Dems have won the popular vote in presidential elections six times since 1992 by roughly 5.5%(1992), 8.5%,(1996) .5%(2000), 7.3%(2008), 4%(2012), 2%(2016),and 4.5%(2020).
In that period the GOP presidential candidate has won the popular vote twice: 2.5%(2004) and 1.5%(2024).
Douthat writes that 2024, when Harris lost by 1.5% of the popular vote, was "an ideological referendum and progressivism lost." I wonder why he didn't view the 2020 election, when Trump lost by 4.5% of the popular vote, as a far more significant loss for conservatism.

Contra Obama when Trump posts a poop video it isn’t a distraction. It’s another way to tell the voters that support him that they are superior to the voters who backed Obama. The better response isn’t to hand wave it away but for Obama to say his voters are not little weasels who shit on America.
Obama: The weird videos of a U.S. President with a crown on his head flying a fighter jet and dumping poop on protesting citizens… All of that is designed to distract you from the fact that your situation has not gotten better.

If Dems win the Supreme Court races in Pennsylvania in 9 days, it’s extremely likely the GOP can’t get a majority on that court until 2029.

The GOP really wants to have this majority during the 2028 presidential race.

The GOP is making an expensive push to end Democrats’ majority on a court at the center of election lawsuits, sparking a fledging campaign season with little precedent or template.

The president wants nothing so dearly as he wants to see American troops gunning down the people he doesn’t like
Trump is reportedly planning a military "rapid reaction" force to police civil unrest. That's dangerous, Brennan Center's Joseph Nunn says: “You don’t want to normalize routine military participation in law enforcement."
Pentagon plan would create military ‘reaction force’ for civil unrest
Documents reviewed by The Post detail a prospective National Guard mission that, if adopted, would require hundreds of troops to be ready around-the-clock.

-Payrolls grew just 73,000, below expectations
-Surprisingly large downward revisions to May (+144k to +19k) and Jun (+147k to +14k)
-Unemp up to 4.2%
