I have no words for how sick this makes me.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

A few years back, Pinker and Lomborg where examples for me. I *loved* the Sceptical Environmentalist!

But Lomborg went on to cherry picking and often straight-up lying about energy in a way that must be conscious, and Pinker fancies himself knowledgeable about energy and climate change but isn't.
This is particularly stunning because the sheer number of times we demonstrated Bjorn Lomborg was just flat-out lying grew so large that it almost became literally pointless to keep doing it, because he just ignores it and keeps on going

This is your Thanksgiving table conversation. Trump is the blowhard uncle who hates socialists but actually loves the things socialists want to do.

Trump Administration: Thank God that's over, now let's move forward

Ron Wyden:
Great news that the Senate has passed the bill forcing the DOJ to release its Epstein file. Now Bondi must comply. But our work cannot stop there. We need to force the Treasury to release the Epstein bank records too. I have a bill to make that happen. FOLLOW THE MONEY.

I think the Trumpist coalition is fracturing and there's a not insignificant chance this will lead to Trump's downfall.

However, the absolute worst thing we can do if this does end up happening is pretend that our constitutional ordered worked the way it was supposed to.

Almost always, in my experience, ethics and good system design are the same thing. And all of the flavors of oppression are bad on both counts.
Patriarchy is a systems trap. It breaks the feedback loops needed for health and balance, it cuts off early warnings and silences sensing elements.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I contended with this dark reality every day of my doctoral research on the history of child trafficking laws in the US. It is all so much worse than one could ever imagine, and so much more important and telling than we are led to believe.

This is actually good spin, or would have been. But the fact that the Democratic cave happened without even a coordinated, agreed-upon message like this indicates the depth of the leadership void.

Chatted y'day with an undocumented immigrant who fled Mexico at age 17 in the 90s bc an uncle was pressuring him to join cartel business. He said "If I'd stayed I'd either be rich or dead, probably dead. And I didn't want to do bad things."

I wish more US citizens understood how fortunate we are.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

my ONLY note on the way today played out is that it would have been neat for Cheney to drop dead during the part of this speech where he talks about eradicating Islamophobia from the halls of power both within and outside of New York, just to REALLY drive the theme home, but that's a minor quibble

If there is a single person through whom all political power flows and who is the sole decision maker in a polity, then that person is a dictator. It does not matter if that person seized power violently or is ceded extra judicial powers by coconspirators already in government.

Before this happens, Democrats need to build a media apparatus that will broadcast the GOP's full on Nazi turn to normie voters. Legacy media thinks it's their responsibility to screen out GOP degeneracy under the guise of objectivity.
My gut says that there’s a real chance the groyper right wins their internet war with the last remnants of the old-school GOP and completely seizes the comm apparatuses, and there’s a decent chance that takes them out electorally because that stuff does NOT play well with the general public.
Ben Shapiro was just ratioed by Nick Fuentes on X after Shapiro called out Tucker Carlson and Fuentes for their antisemitism.
