The upside is the force's mentality and approach to cyclists is not hidden.
Chapter 886-15: "No person shall operate or stop a vehicle other than a bicycle or large cargo-power assisted bicycle in any cycle track... Exemptions: Ambulances, police or fire service vehicles or any other vehicle actively engaged in responding to an emergency"

There's actually a great scene in The Rookie about this. Do you want cops to have to park a 5 or 10 minute walk away to pick up coffee, and then an emergency call comes in?

BUT, that scene dealt with an ordinary parking violation not *causing a hazard* by blocking a bike lane. So, team Cycle here.

The cycling advocates in this city are so, so inspiring. Even if King Doug sets us back in the short term, things like this tell me we’ll win in the long term. #bikeTO
WOW, with Bike Plan on verge of dying on order paper, 50 cycling advocates give up their turn to speak (after 7hr wait) to ensure the plan for 20km of new bikeways moves forward to council. Great teamwork!!

"'We support the staff recommendations,' said Michael Longfield, executive director of advocacy group Cycle Toronto, in perhaps his shortest ever deputation as committee chair Paula Fletcher warned too much time speaking could mean the plan would be left in limbo."

@graphicmatt.com you missed a good one.
The bike plan piece only started to be discussed about fifteen minutes ago. @mlongfield.bsky.social of @cycletoronto.bsky.social encouraged supporters to keep it brief due to a risk of losing quorum. Haven't had this happen before. Also, a lot of speakers didn't show up. #BikeTO #TOpoli #VisionZero

Good news. We rapidly plowed through the item and it goes directly to council without recommendation. #BikeTO #TOpoli #VisionZero

Lol. Cycling advocates did lightning-speed deputations to help IEC get through this without losing quorum and then Colle concluded with "We've gotta go to about 20 development meetings here. All over the city. We're building condos everywhere. Nobody buys them."
Always a pleasure, Deputy Mayor!
We've been at City Hall all day listening to some fantastic TransformTO deputations urging the city to prioritise climate action, but the cycling network update with 20 km of new bike lanes is coming up soon!

20kms of new bike lanes at IEC today -- all Bill 60/Bill 212 compliant.

"Despite his enthusiasm, Longfield said, 'you can't take anything for granted. We've seen projects approved by city council that end up in limbo for years afterwards because of various factors.'"

Plan to build 20 km of new Toronto bike lanes despite Ontario restrictions 'not a loophole,' city says | CBC News
With an estimated price tag of more than $30 million, the proposed 20.5 km of lanes will dodge interference from the Ford government if approved because they won’t require removing car lanes. Instead,...

"...a possibility"?!?

Over the past 14 months, the Minister of Transportation has amended the Highway Traffic Act FOUR TIMES to arbitrarily and recklessly limit, remove, or ban bike lanes.

Where is the same urgency on opening the Eglinton Crosstown now FOUR YEARS overdue? Ontarians deserve better.

Very interesting parallels between how Trump is using the pardon power and how certain provincial premiers are using the notwithstanding clause (yes yes, the latter is technically a legislative, rather than executive, power). Both valid constitutional instruments, both being radically abused.

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Good listen on CBC Metro Morning with McLeish Orlando's Patrick Brown about new provincial legislation that's a good step for harsher penalties for some road violence that still doesn't go far enough especially given provincial speed camera repeal and bike lane ban.

the biggest single expansion is on kingston road in scarborough.

cycle toronto needs people to speak up at city hall for bike lanes, so if you ride a bike or care about safer streets, show up:
WE NEED YOU TO SPEAK UP AT COMMITTEE.

Come out to our public speaking training workshop on Dec 2 to learn how to craft your personal message ahead of committee.

A new report coming to the city’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee (IEC) on Dec 4 is proposing nearly 20kms of new and upgraded bike lanes including Rathburn Rd, Trethewey Dr, and Kingston Rd. All projects SHOULD be Bill 212/60 compliant and free from provincial overreach.
