Creative, artistic, theatrey, engaged in the world people are my tribe. Reformed analyst.
Love and solidarity to you all (to quote Mona Eltahawy - it's her line, but the sentiment can be shared)
I watched 'The King' this evening. I have been relentlessly watching comedies and dramadies to save myself from the awfulness of everything, but my Beloved is in rebellion against my wall of 'puerile meaninglessness'. So, we watched The King.
And it was good. #streaming

I love this column: open.substack.com/pub/aliensid...
And this line: "the trousers have achieved sentience and used it to write a long think piece about disappointment"...
Aggressively unkempt
I did not expect this particular regret so late in life.

I used to believe that the ABC was unjustly underfunded.
Harder to prosecute that case when you find out how they spent their budget.

I empathise most with this: "Like being a dickhead, the soul-crushing weight of this moment clearly operates on a spectrum, too." Yes. Though I quip about disillusionment with politicians, it's actually soul crushing to find that there is NO integrity to be found amongst the majority of your peers.

Any time you think people cannot disappoint you more, there's Anthony Albanese to prove you wrong.

Australians pay 4 times more in HECS repayments than the gas industry pays in Petroleum Resource Rent Tax!

Australia Institute analysis shows replacing the PRRT with a flat 25% tax on gas exports, as suggested by the ACTU, would raise over $17 billion a year.

I watched Season 3 of The Diplomat over two nights... Nothing is as compelling as Season One... but I am still enjoying it.

29 international COP climate talks have failed to deliver.

What's needed now is leadership. One major nation to honestly level with the public - then launch a wartime scale emergency program to electrify its economy, cutting emissions and making people better off.

🚨 None of the UN IPCC models capture what NASA satellites are seeing.

We should assume and prepare for the worst, as there is a non-zero chance of 3°C of global warming by 2050.

We better assume that it will happen and/or try to make sure that it doesn't happen.

I don't think Lidia Thorpe and I would metaphorically want to "burn it all down" for (exactly) the same reasons...
But I definitely think (literally) policing her for using that expression is over-reach, and not a good use of the AFP's time and resources. #auspol
