I wrote a column about this last year, but if you genuinely care about the corrections part of corrections, gouging inmates' families on phone calls is one of the stupidest things you can do.

When I was young I looked forward to a time when the South would stop producing one damn throwback bigot after another, and I could actually take a little pride in where I come from.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it many more times. Don’t like trash around homeless encampments? Supply dumpsters. Easy and less expensive than sweeps and cleanups. Don’t like human excrement on the ground? Supply ports potties. Again, cheaper and easier than cleaning it up later.
