I will never understand why policies and decisions are not made by prioritizing care for people (and the environment, etc). How does money or optics matter more than that? Seriously, what matters more than quality of life? Especially for vulnerable and marginalized people who need help.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it many more times. Don’t like trash around homeless encampments? Supply dumpsters. Easy and less expensive than sweeps and cleanups. Don’t like human excrement on the ground? Supply ports potties. Again, cheaper and easier than cleaning it up later.

Rather than build social housing, it appears Wilson will go back to the often tried and always failed “take homeless people’s stuff” model. During Wheeler’s last term, I collected some stats from the city’s website about number of sweeps and camps over time. Spoiler alert: the was no correlation.
Shake-up at the Portland Housing Bureau: Mayor Wilson put director Helmi Hisserich, an "unparalleled expert" on social housing, on leave with little explanation Thursday. She has been in the role since early 2024.

I sure hope we learn our lessons from banding together as people against this horror show government. I was so hopeful during Covid, because we were learning the right lessons finally as a society. But then it all just disappeared… let’s hold on to our lessons and community solidarity this time, ok?

If Portland electeds are “covering up terrorism” at the ice facility, wouldn’t that also mean that ice is covering it up? They have tons of cameras running at all times… not to mention this age of everyone having cell phones and there literally being no way that that kind of thing could be hidden.

Wild idea. I think consumers should be able to opt out of sharing an electric grid with data centers. I had the choice to pay a little extra on my bill to use clean energy years ago. I opted in, and the difference was minimal. Yet I wasn't given any choice about propping up a water guzzling Ai mill
