New Post: 20 Years of SLA

What lessons have we learned as we open our doors for our 20th first day of school?
20 Years of SLA
Tomorrow morning, Science Leadership Academy opens its doors for the 20th time. To say that it has been a heck of a run is purely an understatement. In that time, we've worked with thousands of kids, and we've done all that we can to show the world that an inquiry driven, project based, caring school really can make a difference in the lives of the students and the educators who inhabit it.

The Sixers don't deserve me staying up to watch them tonight. This game isn't worth being tired tomorrow.

Absolutely pathetic 3rd quarter against a team they just have to beat.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

It's been said many times, many ways: the fascists thought winning an election would mean winning the culture, and the fact that hasn't happened is making them rabid.

Here’s the thing — if you are a Trump-supporting teacher, there is no way a Black student can feel safe in your classroom.

That was true before his most recent post, but it is undeniable now.

Period. Full stop.

Obviously, what these folks are doing to people is far, far worse than this... but people who kick puppies really are pretty horrible.
TRIGGER WARNING, because here is a US Marshal from Trump‘s Gestapo Force in Memphis kicking a puppy today in the Whitehaven neighborhood and breaking its rib. They were serving a warrant and I guess BIG MAN got scared of the schnauzer.

(I didn’t take the video, the dog’s person did)

There is something fatalistically perfect about the #Sixers shooting 18% from three the first game after they trade Jared McCain.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

The Washington Wizards trade for Anthony Davis the same day the Washington Post eliminates its sports section. It’s as if the universe is talking to the paper’s leadership.

I hate rooting for laundry.

I hope he torches us for 30.

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

The cruelty, as ever, is the point.
Reporter: Do you plan to apologize to the family of Alex Pretti?

Vance: For what?

He’s not even hiding the grift.
Trump on his multiple suits against the federal government: "I'm supposed to work out a settlement with myself ... We could make it a substantial amount, nobody would care, because it's gonna go to numerous, very good charities."

So… if you didn’t have “Arresting Journalists” on your “Dismantling American Democracy” bingo card, you clearly weren’t paying attention in History class.
Federal agents arrested the former CNN anchor Don Lemon on Thursday on charges that he violated federal law during a Jan. 18 protest against the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, his lawyer said. The case had been rejected last week by a magistrate judge. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/30/u...

If Democrats haven't announced their proposal for the Donald Trump No Guns in Public bill by the end of the day, they're missing an easy shot
Trump: "With that being said, you can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. You just can't. You can't walk in with guns. You can't do that. But it's just a very unfortunate incident."

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

This is right.

Do not be fooled by Trump looking to placate moderates by removing Bovino and momentarily toning down the rhetoric.

They have shown us who they are over and over again.

Believe your eyes, and keep resisting.
They are wounded and flailing. Press the advantage.
