I'm SO excited for y'all to reach Chapter 10 when it comes out in a few weeks :3
It's my first one-shot chapter (i.e. one scene, rather than being part of a multi-chapter continuous scene) ... but it's a BIG one

It's so funny to me how I set my story in a cyberpunk/urban fantasy setting, but it's taken until planning for chapter 13 for me to even think about "classic" cyberpunk backdrops for the plot

This is why you have to love the work. When publishing and fortune kick you in the face, the page will still be there for you. When all you get are nos, the story will be your yes. You can't count on sales or marketing money, but you can count on the feeling of flow, of creation, the joy of art.

I think one of the hardest things about being a career writer in traditional publishing is that writing attracts the neurodivergent brain while the variable reinforcement schedule punishes it.
