“Stay here.” Klaus called back to Annalise, running over to the musket that sat above the fireplace. He didn’t even know how to use the thing, but he wasn’t going out there unarmed. He didn’t wait for Annalise to respond, he simply ran out the front door, bee-lining for the farmstead just beside them. Junkers and his wife were far too elderly to fight off whatever kind of beast might have found its way inside, but Klaus wasn’t sure if he could manage any better. Though, none of that mattered right now, for all his thoughts went blank as he neared the back entrance of their home. The door was missing, cast aside in the tall grass like it had been ripped from the structure. What could have done that much damage, was it a bear? This close to the village? Is it rabid? A few lights flickered inside the home, but it was awfully quiet, and still quite dark. He tried to force back his uneasiness with a gulp; he needed to see if they were alright. Klaus slowly stepped inside, raising the musket as he walked along the hallway, his eyes darting to every corner.

Elaine was silent, judging Yumiko with her cold, pale eyes, closing the book shut and dismissing it back to the shelf. “I’ll hold you to it,” she finally relented, “fulfill your duties here, establish your apple tree, and do what you want with that man, but know this,” she narrowed her eyes, “if your emotions reduce you to a puddle of blood on the ground, then that’s all you will be remembered as.” She grabbed a stamp, slamming it down onto the relocation request before discarding it onto a nearby stack of papers. “I expect more progress within the week, or I will consider you a lost cause.”
