Schumer wanted to keep fighting for political reasons. Shaheen and crew wanted the deal because the shutdown had become pointless as there was no ACA deal to be had with Republicans. In my book they were both right. Schumer for wanting the fight and Shaheen for sticking to reality.

The problem isn't that they caved for a promised vote; the problem is that the vote will be a meaningless gesture impressing no one but Senate Democrats.
It will fail. ACA beneficiaries will suffer considerably as a result and there will be no consequences of any kind for Republicans.

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Ah, yes: the Republican Party still has an armed wing.
New:
On The Gateway Pundit's podcast yesterday, Stewart Rhodes announced he's relaunching the Oath Keepers
He also urged Trump to “call us up as a militia" & "order us all to come together in our counties under his command."

The naïveté to believe this this is astounding.
I am supremely disappointed in you Jean. I have supported you since your first run as governor in NH.
What you have wrought is nothing short of a disaster.

Like I wrote, it’s Senate-brain logic: *what if we’re not opponents, but instead colleagues who all want what’s best for the American people?*
Are the “Republicans who are going to join [Dems] in trying to address healthcare costs” in the room with you right now, senator?

The only silver lining: when Republicans inevitably vote down ACA subsidies, it’ll be clear who fought to protect Americans’ healthcare—and who didn’t. Democrats gave them the rope. Now we’ll see if the GOP uses it to finish the job.

In exchange, they got a promise for a symbolic vote on restoring ACA subsidies—one that will easily fail in the Senate and never even see the light of day in Mike Johnson’s House. That’s not a win. That’s window dressing.

Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

The No-Win scenario just continued.
Yeah, the government will likely reopen, and it will be due to an epic failure of leadership.
The republicans will never agree to save ACA assistance.
Life is going to get much harder for so many of us.
They were never going to extract ACA payments (cont.)

By voting for this, Democrats are owning the shutdown. Because it will have been for NOTHING.
Needless pain, because in the end you screwed over the most vulnerable again.
You think the voters this last week didn’t send you a message to fight!?

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!
That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

If Schumer votes AGAINST this but enough Ds vote FOR it that it passes, he needs to RESIGN immediately.
He will have shown himself to be absolutely ineffective as a minority leader. He has to go.
Literally resign tonight.
