Ok, senators are beginning to put draft bills in. Time to start reading through and figuring out what are going to be the hot ticket bills this session. Wish me luck

I'm seeing a lot of folks going to places like Walmart to buy canned goods for food drives. It is better for the community to just donate that money directly to an organization and then they can buy cases of canned goods at steep discounts (sometimes even at or below cost)

idk why this concept is difficult to grasp for a lot of people and doesn't take priority over wether or not liking wizards makes you a good person. Dont give her money! The money funds evil! its truly that simple
A portion of every dollar spent on Harry Potter merchandise goes to anti-transgender campaigns.
I might never really get over the Palia stans telling me that a16z being one of the major VC supports of the game was Ok, Actually
...in an election year where a16z told people to vote for Trump because "he supports small business." I hope they're all eating their words now...
This post hits *all* the points about why I'm not doing cozy game or life/farm sim reviews anymore. Saying all the things I've wanted to say about the "wholesome community" but was too afraid to write
remember that time when I wrote an article explaining how and why alt right types like to infiltrate wholesome communities and how to be resilient against that behavior?

Good news!!
byrdbrnz.me is up and running again 💕 That said, there's still some broken elements on the website and it desperately needs a layout update. Thanks for understanding while I work through moving things about, but the blog should be readable now! Bonus: there's finally a search!

For those asking how to support, here’s how: www.greenbootsgardens.com/get-involved
The government shutdown has put SNAP benefits at risk for millions of Americans. Travis Peters, an urban farmer in Detroit, is giving out free produce tomorrow

'If it's getting tight, my food is free. Don’t even sweat that'
As SNAP benefits come under threat, a Detroit farmer is stepping up to help fill the void

If you make 130% of the federal poverty level, you qualify for SNAP.

A family of four, making $40,560, qualifies for SNAP benefits meaning thousands of Missouri teachers qualify.

I’m tired of the bullshit. Most of the people who receive snap benefits work.

Capitalism means a system where private individuals own the means of production (like factories) and run them for profit. The people who own the factories are the capitalist class. It doesn’t mean “buying gum at a gas station”, you aren’t a capitalist because you bought gum.
Semi-frequent reminder that LibreOffice is free, open-source, and basically just M$FT Office without all the packed in AI bullshit
Because I feel this in my soul and would also lose it if I kept getting prompt after prompt to REWRITE WHAT I'VE JUST WRITTEN
"I DON'T NEED YOU TO FUCKING REWRITE WHAT I'VE JUST WRITTEN!"
My creative engine may run a bit slower than everyone else's, but it's still running. It's still going. Slow and steady.
I genuinely love doing what I do. I don't want to constantly push out new works every other month and burn myself out
I just want to create, work diligently, and let others enjoy
Then I remember, I'm balancing several works all at once. Far North, Nosia, Exploring Spirit, and another novel I'm still in concept on. Add in streaming once or twice a week. Articles on the FL legislative session...sometimes game reviews...and the monthly updates...
Nosia has taken me the better part of a couple years to get a first outline done. I worry that if I'm too slow, no one will want to engage with my work. People will lose interest in the thing that I've poured myself into
Sometimes I get discouraged that I don't do "enough" work on my writing
That it takes me a few years to complete all the steps to put out a novel, when others can push out huge works in the span of months. It took me 10 years to conceive of and refine Far North. Another year for Greenhouse Museum

On a deeply personal note:

CW: eating disorder

If you have struggled with disordered eating in the past and are now dealing with food insecurity, it is really important to seek support. It is so, so easy to fall into unhealthy patterns when self-denial is involved. Don’t white knuckle it.
Last thing: if you’re in the position to need this advice, don’t deny yourself small pleasures. First, psychologically, restricting yourself makes it more likely you will have a fraught moment and spend more than you want. But more importantly:

You are living through a shitshow.

Heads up for blog readers
The website is currently down. Changing some things around, doing a bit of a theme update/refresh, etc. Not sure what the eta is on an up time, it's just me over here doing all this and I currently have a headache. Will update when it's back online!
