I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

NEW: The two shot National Guard troops never should have been in DC. More troops is no answer.

The violence is horrible and unacceptable. Trump, Pete Hegseth, and West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey never should have put the troops in this position.

Sudden switch to remote work I think definitely revealed a lot of middle management that was incompetent or didn't do anything which is one of the reasons there was such a heavy push to deride and end the practice bsky.app/profile/sara...
1) I saw managers and engineers who had reading or writing difficulties either due to habit or limited English proficiency penalized by early COVID exigencies which demanded asynchronous communication and documentation.

Suddenly, shouting and hoping the audience understood didn't work.
I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.

Yup. The children of the wealthy are still gonna learn how to read and write it's the poor who are gonna have those programs cut "because AI does it for you now" bsky.app/profile/wowt...
And there are billions of dollars at stake for making sure the answer is, "You're right, why should you bother to learn to read and write? Let's get you in front of those Amazon training videos so you can get right to work!"

Victory! SBCTA is cancelling the ONT Tesla Tunnel project - which would have duplicated BRT with an tunnel for cars - after construction costs escalated to $1-2 B. Time to pivot to electrification and 15 minute service on the San Bernardino line, planning for future multi-use heavy rail to ONT.

I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

1 Can't emphasize this enough. EU is home to multiple "second-tier" great powers — who are only "second-tier" because they chose not to make large investments in military capabilities — and is itself an economic & diplomatic great power. NATO is the most powerful security confederation in history.
It sure seems like Vance leads a faction that is enamored of 🇷🇺's cultivated cultural conservative "soft power", reflexively anti-Atlanticist, and stupid enough to think that wedging 🇷🇺-🇨🇳 is a) realistic and b) worth trashing our relationship with the world's third largest economy.

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.
