The thing that makes Star Trek utopian isn’t the end of scarcity or the harmony between all peoples it’s also that the guy on the ship who gets laid the most plays the trombone at work and periodically does community theater

WE ARE COMING, FATHER ABRAHAM, THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND MORE,
FROM MISSISSIPPI'S WINDING STREAM AND FROM NEW ENGLAND'S SHORE.

WE DARE NOT LOOK BEHIND US BUT STEADFASTLY BEFORE.
WE ARE COMING, FATHER ABRAHAM, THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND MORE!
Ok- one king.

Took my camera to #nokings at Pasadena City Hall. Here are some of my favorite shots! 1/3
This turnout is incredible, easily thousands of people!

notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important

Their project depends on making us all feel alone, isolated and powerless. Taking part in a protest destroys all of those feelings in an instant. Go.
Head to a protest today. I can almost promise you will feel less hopeless. That's exactly what they don't want. There are more of us than there are of them.
It was the 827 fights back on twitter that put yimby on my radar years ago. So pleased to see (and help!) the pro-housing movement grow into a force since then.

I’m convinced the main reason Miyazaki films have a reputation for being “cozy” in the West is because he actually writes and animates long moments of quiet into his stories, whereas Western animated films are usually a nonstop parade of loud music, sounds, noises and neon colors.
Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.

AI Bros: so homey! So comfy!
every ai bro who has reduced miyazaki to empty gentle aesthetic should no exaggeration get the judas cradle bc this man's markmaking & passion about telling WAR STORIES
I do! I give my local YIMBY group 5 bucks a month because i think more housing would be good.

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.
#YIMBY does not miss this. In 2021 @cayimby.bsky.social sponsored a ballot initiative to repeal Article 34, the 1950-passed amendment that blocks all new rent stabilized housing construction in the state. Repealing Article 34 continues to be a goal of the organization.
Wishing for tons of apartments in South Pas. Great thread!

A good enough reason to spend lots of time doing art is just that it’s fun to do art
the mainstream conversation around masculinity is catastrophically mind melting

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑
Switched my default search engine to duckduckgo and haven't regretted it.

When I am like now, where I am like 'damn I cannot draw and all I have ever made looks like a pile of shit' I find comfort in this. Artists are so fucking cursed, man. We're so cursed. 💀
