No one respects Russia, that goes without saying now, but what happens to it, & Putin, when no one fears it?

Russia’s leader isn’t nearly as strong as he’s made out to be, Andrew Ryvkin writes. “A realistic view of his power would strip Putin of his biggest leverage: the perception of his invincibility," which is routinely voiced by JD Vance and a slew of other friends-of-Putin in the MAGA GOP.
Putin Is Not Winning
Underestimating the Russian leader is dangerous, but ascribing dark powers to him plays right into his hands.

🇸🇪OSCE in Europe appointed Swedish MP as Special Envoy to stop Russia's abduction and forced Russification of Ukrainian children.

Carina Ödebrink has been deeply involved in documenting these cases through her work with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.⤵️

For decades, Russia built its influence in Central Asia one pipeline at a time.
Now, the same network is unraveling.

Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are finding new exits—west to Turkey, east to China, south through Iran.

The map of power is being redrawn...
The end of Russia’s energy empire in Central Asia: pipelines, politics, and payback
Russia’s Central Asian energy empire is collapsing—and investors still betting on Moscow are making a costly mistake.

It’s the 111th anniversary today of the birth of Harry Rée, who was a teacher and conscientious objector when the Second World War broke out, and by the time it ended, when he was 31, had invented ‘blackmail sabotage’ and got a DSO, an OBE, a Croix de Guerre, and a Medaille de la Resistance

I'd like to share a brilliant example of the asymmetrical warfare that has achieved astonishing results for Ukraine: about $12 billion destroyed Russian equipment.

Pavlo "Lasar" Yelizarov used to be a TV-show producer before the full-scale invasion. In February 2022, he started defending Ukraine.

You misunderstand, the good news is this initiative for the north. Despite the very bad news about auto, there are smaller stories that are positive.

Day 1330 of Russia's war. Remember Putin's aims were to take Kyiv, install a puppet "president", take all Ukraine's ports, energy fields, and leave a rump 'state' next to Poland.

How well and bravely Ukraine has fought. We MUST see this through to a just peace.

Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski arrived in London with a Shahed drone to demonstrate how the russian Federation terrorizes Ukraine.

He noted that a single "Shahed" won't reach London, but a "fleet of scrap metal" can destroy Europe's infrastructure.

Russia must be desperate to get their Med port back, if they have the dosh to invest. A way of lighting a fire under western countries to get more support for Syria. Turkey plays both sides, so why not Syria?

The UK and Canada will join the EU in a plan to use part of the nearly $300 billion in frozen Russian central bank assets held by G7 nations to boost financial support for Ukraine. The mechanism would allow issuing loans without formally seizing the assets, securing long-term financing for Ukraine.

Who will help Russia as it slides into a turbo charged version of 1990s? When it loses the war? No one. The danger to Russia is not NATO, or Ukraine & other countries that only want to live in peace, the danger to Russia is its current friend/enemy: China.

How many tanks, rocket launchers, airplanes etc could repel China if an insurrection happens ?
Who's going to step in to protect Russia if China annexes the east ?
Even Putin is so drowned in debts (both money and support) with China that could probably dismiss the whole thing as "payment".

The leverage that the US and its Western allies have over Russia is their ability to increase the cost of the war for Moscow by supplying Ukraine with weapons and increasing sanctions on Russia. So far, neither Biden nor Trump has had the courage or political will to exploit this leverage fully.
