Students Banned From the Library

Thank you Kelly Jensen and @bookriot.bsky.social for reporting on what's now happening in one Texas school district... just like we feared/knew would happen.

New Braunfels ISD has closed its libraries to middle and high schoolers.

Infuriating.

"Through this unlawful process, IMLS’s new leadership has decided that nearly all of the $14.1 million allocated to the National Leadership Grants for Libraries program is going to a single recipient, the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission for its America250 project"
“ALL of Florida lost its [interlibrary loan] services as of October 1. This, of course, most harms those in rural communities. That means those with the most to lose and with the weakest access to education and entertainment materials are now wholly dependent on what their own library owns…”
The Current State of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (October 2025 Edition)
Grant money that should be going to library projects is going to state-sponsored propaganda, among other IMLS updates.

ICE is up. Feds have been spotted in Rogers Park. Video is also circulating of Border Patrol grabbing someone near their usual hunting ground at the Home Depot in Cicero.

Hey, Pete. There's a great little marathon happening here in Chicago on Sunday. Maybe you could come and show us your physical prowess then.
We're trying to figure out how to buy books for my small private club library without going to Amazon. Any suggestions?

Question: what would the consequences be for red states if California and Illinois withdrew from the Governors Association?
Pritzker is also furious: “Should National Governors Association leadership choose to remain silent, Illinois will have no choice but to withdraw from the organization.”

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

Terror today in Logan Square.

“There was a gentleman over there that was vomiting. There were people in the store nearby that were trying to get water in people’s eyes as soon as they can,” he said.”

U.S. Rep. Delia Ramirez released statement on particularly chaotic day and chaotic week:

ICE is out of control. ICE is operating with impunity outside the confines of the law. ICE is trampling our rights. ICE is terrorizing our communities.

Yesterday, the people of Arizona were promised representation next week. Now, Speaker Johnson backtracked again and said he's keeping the House closed next week too.

#AZ07 should not be stuck without federal support or a say in Congress any longer.

Another day, another delay from Speaker Johnson.

Southern Arizona deserves a voice in Congress now, not just once it’s politically convenient for the House GOP.

Administer the oath to Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva now.
Totally unacceptable that Speaker Johnson won’t swear in Adelita Grijalva immediately.

He refused to swear her in on Tuesday, and now he's refusing to swear her in tomorrow, though she is in Washington and stands ready.
