Since I am actually writing again, I may actually post about writing again, which means this is a great time to remind y'all that my Wings Rising epic fantasy duology is available from Meerkat Press! Here's a Linktree to find your preferred vendor: linktr.ee/rebeccagomez...
Both my book covers in a promo graphic, Wings Unseen and Wings Unfurled. A small mosquito-like creature is also in the top L corner, and a hand holding a flame in the bottom R corner.

My full review of Drake's Barrel House is now up on my blog! I'm a fan of their barley wines, their space, and their fancy tater tots. In a season of many brewery closures, I'm hoping to keep this one in San Leandro! thegourmez.com/blog/2025-10... 🍽️🍺
Drake's Barrel House
I can recommend the herbaceous Santa’s Brass: barley wine aged in whiskey and port barrels. Also the Death of the Sun, a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with gravitas.

book’s out! hospital gothic, more claustrophobia and slippage of reality, more medical minutiae than most people need, a sinister whiteboard. get it where you get your books but here’s an option:

A promo photo of The Graceview Patient. The hardcover is stacked on the left, and also face out in the center. There’s a sharps container to the right, two decorative medicine vials, a craft syringe filled with food coloring, some alcohol prep swabs, and a package of cotton gauze.

Yeah, the article is supposedly more fair than the lede, as per usual. But I can't help defending my fave beverage!

I started drinking coffee in high school, and definitely preferred mochas then. But over time, I grew to appreciate just the coffee flavor itself, and don't like milk-based drinks nearly as much as I used to, as they mask it. Only if I'm craving dessert.

No nutritional value equals no calories -- this is frankly one of the reasons I drink coffee (black, yes, I drink it black)

Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

You know what, let's do the Annual Mister Global National Costume thread tonight after all. Usual rules apply - this is all in fun, this isn't about the contestants looks or making fun of them, it's about the costumes and appreciating them (or, you know, making fun of them...)

Time to lounge in the hot tub with a bourbon? Yes, yes, I think so.

It’s true: the cities are lawless and scary, if you live here sell your property as fast as possible, particularly if you have a 2 family row house from the 1920s with those nice bay windows.

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. I did emerge from my mother's womb with all my opinions fully formed and never, in any way, changing. Didn't you? Also, those opinions are always right.

That definitely makes sense as a book to film adaptation! But I fear that not enough info was really included about the greater issues at play. But maybe the filmmaker felt the audience would infer enough to enjoy the story he was telling.

I am 100% sure you're correct.

I have lived in the Bay Area for 13 years now, and somehow, today is the first time I am taking the Oakland to San Francisco ferry. Let's go!
A view from the top of the ferry, with a cargo ship very close and Alameda across the water

One Battle After Another: Good performances in this film, but the strong focus on a few characters felt like a disservice to me, as I wanted to understand more about the movement resisting fascism throughout--What were the stakes? The plans? Just survival? Nice action scenes, though! #filmsky 🎥📽️
