Spookymonth continues with readings from @rachelunger.bsky.social and @laurenparker.bsky.social! Their stories showed two different kinds of curses and two different kinds of creepy. You can still watch! This is totally safe and not a RINGU kind of curse. Honest. youtu.be/GFu85wShG4w

Last week ushered in Spookymonth like a full house (of Usher)…and this week, our hand is all queens. To wit: Lauren Parker makes her Story Hour debut, Rachel Unger is again among us! Join us Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. PDT! @laurenparker.bsky.social @rachelunger.bsky.social www.storyhour2020.com
Waist-up color photo of writer Lauren Parker, a fair-skinned woman with short hair dyed bright pink and tattoos on both arms. She wears a strapless smocked top (or perhaps a dress) in a pink floral, one large ring on each hand, a watch with a metal band, dangling earrings, a septum ring, large plastic-framed glasses, and bright pink lipstick. She is in what appears to be a large room with wood paneling; large speakers loom on the ceiling. She stands before a microphone, sheets of white paper in hand, and looks out to the audience with her face alert and almost smiling. Full-body color photo of writer Rachel Unger, a fair-skinned woman with brown hair in pigtails. She wears a blue-and-orange bike jersey, black bike shorts, sunglasses, cycling shoes, and a white bike helmet. This is because she is on a black-and-green Cannondale bicycle, having just completed the AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride. Palm trees, blue sky, sandy beach, and onlookers form a background. She smiles broadly, joyfully, into the camera.

This Story Hour was extra fun for me because David Anaxagoras let me read Astrid's messages in "Your Dasher Has Accidentally Awakened the Crawling Chaos by Gazing into the Loathsome Geometry of the Taco Pup Mega-Muncher Meal Box." They are very voicey! Also, you have never heard me cuss so much.

It’s Spookymonth! Usher in the season with readings from David Anaxagoras and Frank Oreto at Story Hour. Scares! Laughs! Facial hair! More scares! Join us
Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. PDT! @davidanaxagoras.com @frankoreto.bsky.social www.storyhour2020.com
Head-and-shoulders black-and-white photo of writer David Anaxagoras, a fair-skinned man with a short hair and a long beard. He wears a dark woven shirt and black-framed glasses. He sits in front of a bookcase and looks into the distance with a serious expression. Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Frank Oreto, a man with a trimmed, graying beard and mustache. He wears a dark gray fleece vest over a gray tee, accessorized with glasses on a chain and a small-brimmed straw hat accentuated with a black band and a magenta orchid. He sits in what looks to be a restaurant booth and wields chopsticks with an eager expression.

Not only were the stories excellent, the readings themselves were phenomenal. Thomas's Mub voice is just brrrrrrr, and Clay could read the phone book aloud and make it scary (but his story has better pacing).

This Story Hour starts Spookymonth a bit early. @thomasha.bsky.social introduces us to the creeping horror of "The Mub," and @claymcleod.bsky.social reads a cozy little story called "the fireplace." Haha, just kidding. It's hair-raising. I need to get the chimney removed now. youtu.be/Z5SMNWo2kKU

The best way to say goodbye to September? Pretend it’s already October. With creepy readings from Thomas Ha and Clay McLeod Chapman, we plan to do just that. Wednesday, September 24! 7:00 p.m. PDT! Join us! #booksky www.storyhour2020.com
Black-and-white headshot of Clay McLeod Chapman, a fair-skinned man with a shaved cranium and a grizzled beard and mustache. He wears a medium-toned button-down shirt and glasses with midcentury-looking plastic frames. He stands against a black background and looks directly into the camera, unsmiling, eyes slightly narrowed, as he looks into the darkness behind you. Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Thomas Ha, a man of mixed Korean/Irish ancestry who has fair skin, brown eyes, a five-o’clock shadow, and thick black hair worn short and swept back from his forehead. He wears a heathered charcoal tee and gold-tone wire-rimmed glasses. He stands in front of a tree and a building sided with unfinished wood; the building appears to be in near-darkness, although the light on him is bright and casts only soft shadows. He looks directly into the camera, smiling faintly.

Really wonderful Story Hour! If you missed this one, why keep on missing it?

Themes of potential and loss run through these two stories from @kristinaten.bsky.social and @davidmarinowrites.bsky.social. If Kristina's makes you cry, don't worry; David's will make you laugh. This is one of the episodes that shows what stories can do. You can still watch! youtu.be/u56vj3Cg-Ts

Tonight!
storyhour.bsky.social
This week, we present the Story Hour debuts of David Marino and Kristina Ten! Expect beautiful prose, expect to be moved—but most of all, expect to be surprised. Wednesday, September 17! 7:00 p.m.! Join us! @davidmarinowrites.bsky.social @kristinaten.bsky.social www.storyhour2020.com
Head-and-shoulders color photo of author David Marino, a fair-skinned man with dark, curly/wavy hair cut short. He wears a charcoal-gray button-down with an ikat pattern in white. He stands in a sunny outdoor location of tree-lined paths—a park, perhaps?—with his body almost in profile and his face in three-quarters view. He regards the camera with large, dark eyes and a shy-looking smile. Color photo portrait of author Kristina Ten, a fair-skinned and lightly freckled woman with curly hair worn long and without bangs. She wears dark blue jeans, a darker blue button-down, two slim gold necklaces, and a gold nose ring. She sits under a dramatically branching conifer that casts dappled shadows, but the sun is strong enough to shine through her hair and show that it’s a bright auburn color. Resting her elbows on her knees, her hands relaxed in front of her, she sits squared off to the camera with her head turned to three-quarters view. She gives the camera a mischievous, knowing smile.
