Well this ain’t good.

I’m going to keep saying it: both the “male loneliness epidemic” and the techbro obsession with AI are, at their core, about a complete lack of distress tolerance for the messy business of relating to other people and a terror of vulnerability/interdependence.
we talk a lot about the weirdo techbro obsession with immortality these AI necromancy projects embody, but I'm arguably even MORE fascinated by the terror of allowing yourself to experience deep, complex emotions they so obviously reveal

you cannot prevent yourself from feeling grief with an app??

I think often about all those sudden deep experts on quantum physics and string theory, always at the border of a historical breakthrough, that ChatGPT and similar products are fostering among the C-suites of large tech companies.

One year ago, Kevin O'Leary said he would help build the world's largest data centre in rural Alberta.

When we asked for an update, O'Leary Ventures didn't respond to our questions. So we went to Wonder Valley to get some answers.

Incredibly stupid.
Wow! Now the arXiv is demanding that all papers have a full English-language version, either as the original language or as an included translation.

It looks like this is pushing some French scientists to use HAL instead.

My grandpa was born in the US to German parents. He had younger cousins who were in Hitler youth in Germany. Decades later I talked with some of them about it (with the ruthless candor of youth). Why did you do that? What were you thinking? What they described was a lot like this.

Terribly stupid idea that will satisfy faux-populist urges to dunk on public servants while simultaneously making the lives of public servants and the service itself so much worse.

Goofy stuff.
