Alas, this molt was inconclusive. While it's more intact than Thaumantis' was (not that hers was DESTROYED, just, the abdomen kinda was), the abdomen got so folded and wrapped around itself while soaking that it was impossible to detangle from itself.

I DO still think it's female, but unsure.

Woke up this afternoon to discover the Psalmopoeus victori had successfully molted overnight. Good news! Can't wait to see what it looks like now. (Also gonna try to examine the molt, TRY to sex it.) Prolly still gonna look like a sling, but these guys get big! And they grow quickly, too.

Think I’ve got a name for the Caribena versicolor: Thaumantis. It’s one of the epithets of Iris, swift-footed goddess of rainbows, meaning “Daughter of Thaumas”; it also has the etymology of Thauma- itself in there, which in modern parlance refers to magic or wonders (like thaumaturgy).

The P. victori has been hiding in its “dirt curtain”.

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.
