Hey, it's #Portfolioday! My name is Briar, and I'm a Black and Indigenous queer comic colorist.

I specialize in bold colors and dramatic lighting. I've worked previously on Strange Bedfellows(Ariel Ries) and with Arledge Comics.

A scene in an alley at night. There are two characters, Danny Phantom and Batman, standing in the alley. Danny is in ghost form and the only part of Batman that is visible is his cape from the back. Danny is responding to a question Batman has previously posed.

Danny: Look dude, I already said no to the last billionaire in a cape that tried to adopt me. A pair of pointy ears isn't too far off from that Frootloop's hairstyle either. A night scene with a starry sky and a very large moon. The moon is acid-green and glowing unnaturally. In front of it floats Danny Phantom wearing the crown of fire. He has flaming white hair and is wearing a cape with green fur epaulettes. His hands are glowing with green energy.

The bottom of the cape flairs out behind him and contains stars and galaxies. Ember Mclain from Danny Phantom stands in front of a bright Magenta gradient background. Swirls in darker pink and purple fill up the empty space behind her. She is wielding her signature pink guitar with cyan flames and is wearing all black clothing with bright green accessories(a belt, a bracelet, earrings, and choker necklace).

Ember is facing the floor and light from beneath by pink light and the glow of her flaming cyan hair. A black witch, with dark brown curls, leans against a leafless, barren tree in front of bushes in the woods. It is nighttime, and the scene is lit by an eerie orange glow. Her eyes glow red in the darkness. Her left arm is draped over a lit Jack-O-Lantern with a winking face.

She is wearing a wide brim witch hat, which is purple with a bright pink ribbon, and an asymmetrically cut dress with a tight bodice. The bodice is deep red. The skirt of the dress is high in the front, exposing her thighs, and goes long in the back. The skirt start red at the top, near the hips, and transitions through pink into purple at the ends.

I have no clue who Ari Drennen is but Marxist transsexual here. Trans women are some of the most violently lumpenproletarianized people on the planet. Trans women do not own the means of production which is what would make us bourgeois. We are violently barred from the traditional job market.

Are women bourgeois?

Transsexualism as we conceive of it in America is bourgeois, the product of a society that venerates the freedom of an individual to choose. There is no designer vagina under communism, I'm sorry.

Hey #portfolioday, I'm Tadpole (they) and I'm a writer and artist who decided that I can probably do both! Been published in Atelier Arcadia, DMsGuild and Lone Colossus Games, and here's to many more~

Digital image of a man staring at his phone, flanked by 2 chickens on his shoulders "He was kind once; then poor construction killed the family he had created, his wife and adopted children he'd saved from abusive homes and fought long custody cases to win, along with people he loved, neighbors and friends alike who paid the ultimate price for a publicity stunt

The only person who's gotten the true full course of this is Jiyoon, his best friend of a decade and fellow victim - she knows he's holding back his everything from burning it all down, turning Daegu into a smoldering ruin and leaving for good, because he has to believe in people's capacity for kindness and justice, if he doesn't nobody can do it for him" Digital image of a woman caressing a dagger with a cheeky expression ""Are you sure," Yeonjae's voice was quiet, unlike her usual domineering self in the face of her daughter, "This is...I don't- I can't understand why you'd choose to do this now."

The long-haired woman across her smiled, showing the dimples she'd inherited from her mother. "Umma, have you forgotten you taught me the strategies of business growing up?" chuckled Soojung, though there was a sadness in her eyes that struck Yeonjae as so similar to her father's, "We need to do this now. Renounce my inheritance for me, please."

"They aren't owed an explanation of what happens behind our doors," Yeonjae couldn't help but leer, a flash of white-hot rage about her privacy never being hers, "I know you want to help me ease my load, but I just can't agree - as your umma, I can't put you in danger like this, hurling you into the maws of those sharks seeking to tear us to pieces--"

"Let them," Soojung's tone had taken an abrupt, atypically dark tone, "I can't just-- I won't let them sit and tear us apart like they did before during appa's suicide. We can't keep letting these people win, but we can't let fear control us forever. Look where that's led us. I'm sick of it. Let me help you."

"It'll be a stressful time for everyone involved," Yeonjae sagged, knowing that her daughter could rarely if ever be talked out of something she'd set her mind on, "I'll need you to be prepared for absolutely every possibility that may come up here."

She ran a frustrated hand through her hair, staring off for a few moments before her stare fell upon her daughter once more.

"Does your appa know," she asked, a sudden atypical calm taking her over.

"Of course I asked him first," Soojung managed a pout, folding her arms and leaning back in the plush couch, "It's his favourite trick in the book after all.""

Israeli settlers continue to wage war on Palestinians in the West Bank and elsewhere. They are breaking into people's homes, stealing their stuff, trashing their homes and sometimes kidnapping and killing people. This is happening NOW. People should know this.

a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

they just can’t conceive that ordinary people find them horrifying

A good example is that in the UK, the income penalty for being a queer man is much, much smaller than in the US. Before their horrible backsliding, they were more queer friendly than us. And the UK is like, the bottom of the barrel in many ways, they still have that monarchy after all!
balshumet.bsky.social
I wouldn't compare the US to someplace like Sweden, which is a whole hell of a lot more monoethnic, or *Germany*? But Canada, the UK, and Australia are better comparisons. And before it ALSO got on a wild fascism kick fueled by transphobia, the UK had better treatment of its minorities than us.

That's not entirely, singularly, the result of propaganda, but cultural soft power through our media production is designed to present the exact inaccurate "most wonderful place on earth" propaganda to attract immigrants that we then abuse.
balshumet.bsky.social
Some of the most recent drama going through the black online community has to do with black Americans travelling and even staying in other majority black countries, and being rude asses, because they find it more enjoyable living there. *Truly* some of this effect is our propaganda.
balshumet.bsky.social
We have good propaganda. That's uh, literally something we put a lot of effort into producing, both re: military might and in the wonderfulness of living here in our programming. There are a number of "ex-pat" Americans who now live in Europe who don't want to return!
balshumet.bsky.social
Are you...an immigrant? I feel like this is relevant, because I thought we were comparing "being a US citizen" to "being a citizen of somewhere else" neither first gen immigrants. Because the US is not current winning the immigration fight with...most anywhere in the west in the moment.
balshumet.bsky.social
I'd also like to push back on Golden Age re: racism and queer people in general since the Civil Rights Era. Both the War on Drugs and the AIDS crisis happened from government choice. That was just in the 80's and 90's. And besides, they keep killing black CR leaders in this country.
balshumet.bsky.social
I wouldn't know about being Latina re: Australia, but I've got trans friends in Australia, and they are not currently facing down what we are, so this *feels* like American exceptionalism posting. Truly, it can be a lot better than this!

Since Link is banned, his mutual aid Fridays have gone with him. This was one of the most altruistic things I’ve seen anyone on this site do.

In light of this, I’m gonna try to fill the gap.

Drop your mutual aid requests under this thread and I will repost them for as long as I can.

Transphobes often rely on a contradiction of thought—that transition is converting GNC kids, but there's nothing wrong with being a feminine boy/masculine girl.

AND

That a problem of transition is that many trans women are masculine and many trans men are feminine.

If you are willing to throw away entire groups of people to protect your insular strategy that will only protect you instead of protecting everyone then I don’t want your leaders and I sure as hell don’t want to be associated with you.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.
