Amazon is quietly walking back the AI English dubs, as if that fixes the fact that they had:
Changed IMDB to put dubbing outside the category of general acting.
Made AI dubs of non-English languages.
Opted for AI before ACTUALLY dubbing/streaming existing dubs for the shows they targeted.

To wit: 4Kids dubs are literally what helped bring the medium to a broader American market, when the mainstream adult world wasn’t (and STILL ISN’T) willing to treat anime as anything other than toddler fodder.

Dubbing will continue to stagnate until serious time and consideration is given to the pattern of severe undercutting that is prevalent in the industry. Budgets are getting slashed on workers who were already expected to cut corners with low pay. Adapters and translators are your backbone.

As someone who cares SO MUCH about anime that they became a voice actor and wants to become an anime script adapter, I care about this deeply, and I hope you also care about it enough to spread the word.
