Feel like I should do kind of intro post.

I'm Ava Foxfort, formerly of board game writing, videos and podcasts (and maybe one day again). I did a heel turn into purely tweeting about wrestling for self care reasons. I now play more role playing games than board games but love both.

I know I have a fever right now but it is unclear to me what this would even be purporting to teach. What information is supposedly being shared?

Quite enjoying the fact that pink pantheress has split her remix album into a disc for the (PPP?) girlies and a disc for the (6music?) dads.

I think my vote goes to Los van van and my bonus might hit the river. But honestly everything here is better than most of the rest of this day of polling. Sorry. Maybe I'm in a bad mood. Or maybe these picks are LUSTROUS

'Melancholic electro disco of the whole era', was what I was going for there, believe it or not.
ava.foxfort.net
Oh gosh and T La Rock with some rapsplaining I can get behind.
ava.foxfort.net
Actually a very tough group. I assumed I was going River as I'm fundamentally very River-aligned. (And freaky jazz seems to be exactly what I need every time it comes on). But we'll see.

Los van van is also delightfully airy and light, despite a quite multilayered production. Heart warming.

(But when they got there they were napping)

I thought about this a lot, and in the end no, because it's actually about doing the specific thing in the specific place, while it's vague about where they are when they're not doing the specific thing. Are journeys places?? We sent the beastie boys to find out.

Does anyone have a good cultural history of that ominous bell sound that shows up unexpectedly (delightingly) in Djavan that I more associate with Thriller I think?
ava.foxfort.net
And yes. Once again I'm voting against type and not going for 'erotic delight' by 'witch' despite being an 'erotic delight' and 'witch'.

Holy shit Belle of St Mark is a hearttugger!! What a delightful taut urgency with a sugar light vocal line and a quintessential 80s sound that hasn't quite sounded like anything else we've heard?? I love it.
ava.foxfort.net
Aww. That was the poll that got me polling! It was so delightful. Saved my life and gave me my passion for the micro genre of 'not doing specific things in specific places'. open.spotify.com/playlist/0eJ...

As much as I personally identify as a freak show on the dance floor. It's beautiful that grabbed me closest here. C'est la vie!

So is this a little reference to Norwegian wood or is it an old reggae hook that's been pinched?

I know macca is the patron saint of cultural appropriation but I thought that came later and didn't even think it was one of his??

Oh god why am I talking about the Beatles fuck this I'm going to bed.

I wish I'd got I cry at night nominated as I think it's just the best piece of melancholy electridis I often the whole era. I love his sad pleading and lack of friends. And the aura of that is enough to swing a vote for Egypt Egypt.

Anakin: I cannot believe that in the 80s there was a guy whose entire and only gimmick is that he was from Egypt and he wasn’t even from Egypt

Padme: So you’re not voting for him, right?

This morning I was stuck at East Croydon for nearly half an hour due to a points failure.

I didn't really mind, though, as it gave me more time to workshop some extra artwork for TERMINUS (in the style of Frederick Charles Herrick, who did the troubling 'IT IS WARMER BELOW' poster.)
A photo of an iPad screen, showing a work-in-progress in Procreate. It's a pretty rough sketch, and distinctly inspired by a well-known vintage Tube poster.
We see a cut-away of the earth below a sketchy and grey city street. Beneath this are slices of earth, tube lines, and finally a fiery section like the earth's core – or possibly hell. Warped text curves along the slices. It reads: 'When all is grey & hope is drowned
descend to dreaming underground', and also 'It is waiting below'.

38. ATMOS BLAQ - "Mfana Wase Dobsi" (24, South Africa)

An endlessly turning wheel of rhythm supplemented by drones, chants, birdsong - somehow reaches back to some of the first dance music I loved while being absolutely of its 20s era
