My hot take about the 🌽 industry is that it would be a lot less alienating, toxic, & harmful for producers if it wasn’t so male oriented. Men making up a massive amount of the consumer base (because women are psychologically alienated from desire) centrally perpetuates the toxicity

My books do pretty well, but the backbone of my income is from film and television criticism on my Patreon, so I'm a full-time writer, but I'm doing two separate careers.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.
If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

There’s a growing cottage industry of journalists and influencers whose job it is to sell you “don’t panic, panicking is just what people want you to do. It isn’t that bad yet.” And frankly we should have as much or more skepticism towards them than the panic people. They’re selling complacency.

I have seen *multiple* instances of fictional women wearing bikinis and simply standing (as in, no sexy pose or anything) getting labelled as some degree of sexual. and let's be real, this is a misogynistic bias in the algo, plain and simple.
Plus there's the issue compounding this that Bluesky's third party image recognition algorithm is very dumb. I posted this page from the manga Otherside Picnic last year and it flagged it as "sexually suggestive". It's just two people in sleeping bags camping lol.
