Hospitals across Canada are closing their ERs because there aren't enough doctors to run them. Millions don’t have a doctor. Millions more can’t get an appointment.

It didn’t used to be this way. Turns out it wasn’t an accident.

Experts speaking about Canada's loss of measles elimination status: "We have major gaps in our public health infrastructure."

The gap in that infrastructure:

A racism/microaggression anecdote:

"Are there any fucking Americans around here?" That's what a person (seemingly a White man) said this morning as I walked back into my house in Philly after a morning errand.

Last night out with a friend I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw what looks like the ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ mural in Portland ( that version is over two stories tall complete with living plants to make up her hair on the side of a building). Lovely to see a smaller version.

The living hair!

Here she is ‘Attitude of Gratitude’
by London artist Fin DAC

The hair of this mural in SE Portland is made of thousands of living plants.🌱

Looks like she is actually five stories tall. One of my favorite murals in the city. #pdx

“That’s what frustrates me about the polarisation of everything. If you say you care about cycling, you must be anti-car. Or if you talk about safety, people assume you’re against freedom. It’s all nonsense. We all want the same city, we’re just speaking different languages.”

If we designed roads for cars in the same way we design bike paths, we'd never have to worry about speeding again. Problem solved.

These people should no longer feel safe on the streets.
Astonishing: Bovino and his agents showed up at the Bean this morning to pose for pictures. While Border Patrol snapped photos, one agent shouted, “Everyone say, ‘Little Village!’” The neighborhood where they are least welcome and most acutely felt. blockclubchicago.org/2025/11/10/b...
Border Patrol Agents Pose At 'The Bean' For Apparent Photo Op
The photo op came after agents tear-gassed a Little Village street and were spotted in the area numerous times. At the Bean, one agent shouted, "Everyone say, Little Village!"

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

That was too close!
Driving down 12 Ave SW last night, approaching 11 St, I have a green light.
As I am about to roll through the intersection I spot a car on 11th about to run the red light.
I slam on my brakes and watch the car beside me t-bone the guy who blew the red light.
BOOM!

Sen Gary Peters is in his own way the biggest embarrassment of the lot. He’s been a leader of Team Cave and he’s retiring. So there’s no politics or risk aversion. He wants to cave as a matter of genuine principle.

Note that pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps is and always has been impossible. It’s an impossible act. The idiom always meant “something that cannot be done.”
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Actually…

One century ago, standard, mid-range, catalog shoes went for 2025 $30-50 per pair, were repairable (glued soles hadn’t become common yet), were made of leather, would last for several years and could be Ship of Theseus’ed on soles, fasteners and heels.

They were better shoes for less.

If you have a Dem senator and you're seeing this right now, CALL THEM RIGHT NOW and tell them NO. If you don't know anyone who would be affected by this, call them for my friend Lisa. She cannot afford insurance without ACA subsidies and without health insurance I'm terrified she will die.
