Hello, new followers! 👋

I post about a blend of climate, tech, urbanism, and biking. To start y'all off, here's a blog post I made in Sept. 2024 about owning a cargo e-bike, and how it can do 90% of what a car can, but for 10% of the cost: viktorkoves.com/2024/09/21/y...
Your First EV Could Be A Cargo E-Bike | Viktor Köves
EVs are here, but I want to show you that your first EV could just be a cargo e-bike that can replace most car trips, and save you a boat-load of money!

I think I just experienced peak transit: I was taking the train home from work, hopped off to run into a nearby store, came back, and was blessed with a 2 min wait to resume my trip 😎

In more positive news, more cool demos of plug and play solar coming out from Utah. This setup looks so clean I didn't even realize those were solar panels!

Happy to report the Clark St protected bike lane was basically perfect from its Southern start up to Lawrence.

The Lawrence Ave paonted bike lane, unfortunately like my bike, is nasty as hell and full of slush 🤢

I almost ate shit turning onto Kedzie from Lawrence earlier, so I'm going to email my bike shop today to get studded tires for my Gazelle.

I had to deal with so much snow and slush in the painted and protected bike lanes 😬

I wrote about my childhood friend Alexi Pretti. Please read it and share it and remember him as a human being. @theverge.com
I grew up with Alex Pretti
The kind-hearted ICU nurse shot by ICE agents was my childhood best friend.

This is the coolest fucking form of solidarity I have ever seen.

Bravo.
The ocean freighting industry is woke now (the containers spell Renee, for Renee Good).

In my work creating @chiwho.bike, I've interviewed lots of Chicagoans who ride e-bikes, and they all told me incredible stories about how their ebikes help them get around our city. And all of these are legal and speed limited!

E-bikes are amazing, and we should be encouraging them. (links below)

E-bikes are an amazing transportation tool. Especially in urban places. We should make them more accessible along with building safe bike infrastructure. Go after the illegal bikes/electric motorcycles and don't forget about those cars that actually kill almost 40,000 Americans a year.

"When I get into these funks, it’s like I start believing that climate change is something separate from state violence—and it’s not."
Wrote myself a pep talk to get back to work tomorrow. It helped me. Hope it helps you.
I don't know how to do this
But I'm going to keep doing it anyway.

We've raised a lot of money for my school community neighbors.

And I predict all of it will be depleted by the end of this week.

Snowfall is going to put traffic engineers out of a job. Just replace the snow with sidewalk level concrete and tada you’re done

This is one of the things that I find is most shocking to people outside Minnesota who don’t realize it yet—the scale at which everyone who isn’t white has been forced into a spectrum of hiding.

Very good article drawing out the Tahrir Square comparison.

It's depressing that just last September I was at Angry Catfish renting a bike to tour Minneapolis, and now that's my connection to the second ICE murder victim in that city. When I was visiting, ICE was terrorizing Chicago.

ICE travels through our country, bringing death and destruction.
