LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?
SOURCES: Lane Kiffin is expected to accept LSU's offer to become the Tigers next head coach. Kiffin is set to meet with his Ole Miss team this morning at 9 AM CT. As we reported yesterday morning, LSU has been very confident it was going to land Kiffin. www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...

This can be confusing if you have #MECFS or #LongCovid

Many resources, guides, experts say post exertional malaise (PEM) = post exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)

I actually prefer the way Davenport separates them 🧵

Beautiful @thesicktimes.org essay on how to be a friend to your friends who are affected by Long Covid—and why you should.

Def worth a few minutes of your time.

Very niche: I had this weird reverie about adding to Rafael’s School of Athens. Turned into quite a ramble. You’d still have Plato pointing up and Aristotle down . . . but then add Aquinas pointing at Aristotle, Leo XIII pointing at Aquinas, and Robert Barron pointing at himself. With his thumbs ofc
Friends, civil discourse—something basic to our civilization—is in danger of being lost. Recently, I spoke with Fox News to discuss this dangerous trend.

Because of the ice raids, I haven’t been able to find a caregiver through medicaid since June. For three days a week I have to hire one from a company, and it cost $39.50 an hour. I owe $898 from my last bill and I’m struggling. If youd like to donate I would appreciate it ❤️

There should be infinitely more interest in this medical mystery.

How many doctors can even name the phenomenon described below?

I’ll give a hint: it’s the hallmark of a disease that affects 1.3% of US adults, per CDC. (So docs should know about it!)

I feel this sadness too. Prof Lockwood gives us here a rewriting of St Paul’s verse that it is not flesh and blood that we fight, but powers and principalities.
It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

Had a cavity filled last year, first since Covid. It took four shots of anesthetic and hurt badly afterwards. I’d never had such a reaction before. Can’t say for sure it was LC-related, but very not fun.
Did you know #LongCovid heavily impacts anesthesia response, and because of that, these patients need specific requirements and protocols before receiving anesthesia? Neither do I. Anesthesiologist and neurologist Tihamér Molnar described his research with Long Covid patients in Hungary.

This trial enrolled this many participants this quickly because it’s designed to meet the needs of people with Long COVID, and it’s this well designed because it was designed by the amazing @julialmv.bsky.social who lives with Long COVID herself

Patient participation in research is essential
500 enrollees in *less than two weeks*! So many clinical trials would take months, or even years, to enroll this number of people.

This is what happens when you plan a trial that meets participants where they are, is not overly onerous, and tests something people think is worth trying.
Our randomized, placebo-controlled trial of tirzepatide (Zepbound) for #LongCovid has already enrolled 500 participants of 1000 planned in less than 2 weeks!

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Apropos of a conversation I’m having literally right now
People often push the disabled to take risks with our health.

They think if it’s already “that bad” who cares if it gets worse

We care.

Our baselines mean everything to us.

Whatever limited function we have left is always worth protecting.

You don’t get it until you get it.

Clara, Clara, carissime mea,
Curled there at the hearth,
As must all the earth,
You fold to sun —

That lately was seen in glass depicted.

It’s sad that so many people reject country music because it’s associated with brainless conservatism. Kris Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar. These people are clear sighted American folk music outlaws.
Will just leave this clip here of Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings talking about what’s wrong with America from a 1991 interview and it’s still all very true today

Unforgivable
Reporter: A video of a raid from Los Angeles, look inside this car. They took a US citizen father out and left a toddler in the backseat. Two heavily armed border patrol agents got in that car and drove the child and the vehicle away.

As was feared and, sadly, all too predictable.
