There is an entire history of Sega being one of the "Big Three" arcade companies in Japan (alongside Namco and Taito) and were the most aggressive about leading in tech and expanding into other industries, so much that it nearly killed them by 2000.

Not wrong. I love Sonic to death and he'll always been my favorite Sega character, but most of us American players don't really appreciate Sega's contributions to gaming as a whole because Sega's biggest success here was just the Genesis. In Japan, the arcades were Sega's bread and butter.

I cannot stress enough to any other Australians to please avoid KWS verification like the plague.

There’s a larger thread to discuss regarding the ways international borders are breaking down a bit on internet content. An American financial institution bullying Japanese companies, a UK law forcing age verification measures globally, a German law dictating how a U.S. site operates, etc.
So this is fucked.. Cloudflare is going after Gelbooru using German laws to enforce content restrictions on a server in the United States. I don't know about you, but this is fucked.

I always feel crazy now when I'm designing stuff or talking about stuff and it's like "Well what are the mechanics?" and I'm like "what do you meaaaan who cares about the mechanics!!" and, like most things, it's just cause I'm old.
