This has been driving me insane all week. Downtown is completely ass backwards right now with fragile human bodies (the ones outside of cars) incurring all the weather risks. Curb cuts are behind walls of snow, sidewalks are skating rinks, it’s bananas.
Our priorities are exactly the opposite of what they should be as a society. Snow should be cleared off of sidewalks and crosswalks onto car lanes on the vast majority of streets in a major city. Clear a few emergency routes for ambulances and major bus routes and otherwise people should be walking.

“Originally … designed and marketed as e-commerce distribution facilities,” 23 sites across the country soon to be outfitted to detain up to 9,500 people each, i.e. more than triple the capacity of the largest current ICE facility where at least 3 people have died in the past two months
The largest infrastructure projects currently being built in the US appear to be data centers and detention centers. The AI boom has coincided with ICE becoming the most heavily funded government agency. It's hard not to see a connection: This is the architectures of digital fascism
ICE Begins Buying ‘Mega’ Warehouse Detention Centers Across US
Plans for such centers and jails in nearly two dozen communities have sparked protests over suitability, proximity to homes and schools.

A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

Just so we are clear. Haitians are currently in the United States legally.

They are not here illegally.

Trump is revoking their legal status Feb. 3, and then, according to reports, immediately sending ICE in to Springfield and Columbus, Ohio, to target them.

back from an eerie trip to the UK, where I lived for 2.5yrs but visited as 2026 luxury after 14 years with no idea if I'll ever return; the diasporic shopkeepers remembered me, wanting to discuss this turn to 19th-c shit, expecting it there too by 2027; one said: "don't get detained, & come back-"

Holy shit, that’s just actual theft.
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

Thread from a subject matter expert with details on the green smoke.
OK. Green smoke. Coloured smoke grenades have existed for decades. They are for signalling purposes. They are not meant for riot control purposes. As with any smoke, they are irritating, but they are not meant for that purpose, so use as "riot control" agents is an off-label usage.

Meanwhile, in Iran.

One of the biggest reasons for the uprising in Iran right now, as far as I can tell: water.

Only ~8% of the nation's water goes to people for drinking, bathing, etc. And even that's getting cut off.
Vetted figures from reliable sources have it as 2,000, and I suspect it's probably twice that. I can't imagine that it is anywhere near 20K. Whatever it is, though, the regime has pressed the accelerator where the only off ramp is "winning" or its own total destruction. apnews.com/live/iran-pr...
