Among other things, the (nebulous but clearly unconstitutional) attack on naturalized US citizens contained in this screed is a significant escalation.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

learning a lot about falling birth rates globally & how that will interact with the climate / resource crisis from this - if you are still holding the precept that not having children is an individual act responsive to the planetary pressures of anthropogenic climate change, like I was, recommending
‘Just one of either depopulation in the North or climate change in the South could be enough to drive mass migration.

Anyone who thinks the 21st century will not see the biggest global movement of peoples in history has not been paying attention.’

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

there's that now-famous internet line about how climate change means watching clips of climate disasters on people's phones until you're the one filming it, and it feels like there's some parallel about watching fascist deportation goon squad videos until it's filmed on the streets you recognize

Within a month, federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations shot at D.C. drivers two separate times.

The incidents highlight significant differences in how local and federal police respond to crime, as well as what systems of accountability exist, @maustermuhle.bsky.social reports.
When federal agents shoot people in D.C., there are few details – and little accountability
D.C. police officers are held to one standard, federal agents another.

I got DOGEd earlier this year when they made the funding portal inoperable for EPA grantees to steal the $ & our group of subgrantees was just 1 of 2 out of 75 grantees nationally that sued & won back funds access thanks to a court order that was unexpectedly obeyed, the rest of them didn't even try
DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
