It's a pretty consistent theme that the United States is constitutionally incapable of forgiving any foreign nation for humiliating them militarily and so in proceeding decades, bullies them and their people just for kicks (NK, Cuba, Vietnam, Iran, etc.). An adolescent country with a big stick.
the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

Bought an e-reader after doing some research (stumped for the Kobo Clara BW!) because I was growing pretty tired of reading on my phone when not reading one of my paperbacks/hardbacks due to the eye strain (esp at night). I had a kindle paperwhite years ago and e-ink is one of the coolest modern

Well done to all those who have tirelessly campaigned to scrap the 2-child benefit cap.

Today, the government admitted it had been keeping thousands of children in poverty for no reason whatsoever.

Next, tax wealth, reverse austerity and end the privatisation rip-off!

Really taken with how gorgeous Everyman’s Library Editions are. Solid binding, silk ribbon markers, beautiful jacket art. The paper quality is so smooth, making it a pleasure to touch and hold.

This is the same Labour Party who will turn around and ask why people aren't talking about all the "good things" they're doing in government and the simplest answer is: you're making small pleasures harder to obtain while things are getting shitter.
are you fucking serious

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

Watching deleted scenes from Jane Eyre 2011 and some of these turn the film into full blown horror. The casual reveal of Helen Burns (Jane’s childhood friend at Lowood school who dies from consumption) in the mirror reflection in this scene gave me a mini heart attack 😭

I really love this adaptation. It’s very condensed in comparison to the novel, with the time constraints, but I think the flashback structure is really smart. The gloomy gothicness is brought across beautifully (both in atmosphere and in visuals).

All those people, including current government, who falsely claim migrants are to blame for failings with the NHS, along with infrastructure in general, are in for one hell of a shock with how much worse things will get with Labour's anti-immigration policies.

🚨 27,000 KILLED IN SUDAN’S DARFUR IN 3 DAYS

Darfur governor Minni Arkou Minnawi says 27,000 people were killed in just three days after the RSF captured El-Fasher late last month — a massive jump from earlier estimates of about 2,500 deaths.

In March 2025, Senator Chris Van Hollen introduced...

Seems relevant that vast majority of the targets in the Pakistani drone war were members of the Taliban, not random Pakistani civilians.

Also the rise of precision guided munitions has significantly reduced collateral damage from bombing campaigns. Thank your local defense contractor!
“Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?”

Excuse me? Am I, a Pakistani, supposed to be grateful for all the drones and bombs that were used to massacre people in my homeland because it was done under the auspices of a black president and the dems?!

I’m actually speechless.

I’m deeply depressed and can’t keep begging one by one for help anymore.

It’s so funny when libs shit themselves like this with condescending rhetorical questions when the Democratic party cannot restrain itself in unbridled islamophobia, contempt for Arabs, and constant triangulation on inhuman policies against immigrants. In 2025 this shit runs up into genocide denial.
What if the political ideology of the people in charge of the armed forces impacts who gets bombed? Does anyone think Kamala Harris would declare war on South American fishermen? Could perhaps having people who think brown people are subhuman in charge of our military impacted matters?
What about the rights of LGBT people getting bombed?
