Billionaires: capable of imagining a world where intellectual property and copyright law are meaningless irritations to be ignored. Absolutely baffled by the idea of a 1% tax rise.

Helping a friend with a children's drama class today and the 5-6 year olds are boastfully comparing their grandparents' ages like it's a dick-measuring contest. Funny shit man

WAKE UP DEAD MAN might be the best Knives Out yet. A clever, horror-tinged murder mystery that's also high-key about the battle for the soul of the Catholic Church (and America). I laughed, I cried, I conjectured. @rianjohnson.bsky.social continues to demonstrate his quality.

I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.

About at the point in LIES OF P that I reach in (nearly) all Soulslike games: the point about 80% through where the effort/achievement ratio becomes untenable and I stop playing

Did a standup show yesterday that was themed around "technology".

My set was about how toilets that wash your asshole are a more useful technology and a better use of water than AI.

Big cheers from the crowd.

227. Never ever use CGI or AI when you can simply recast. There are 160,000 members of SAGAFTRA alone. Someone can do the job. A casting director’s job is to find them.

Me: I wish I had more friends and hung out with people more

Also me: I hate it when people ask me if I want to hang out, you know I feel guilty when I'm not working

And by "real people" he means "celebrities and politicians," I guess.
Christopher Luxon said in 2023 he would 'draw the line at' using AI video ads, but his office now says that only applied to fakes of real people.

Maybe entertainment hasn’t changed as much as we think
The real and true story of why Police Squad (the TV series Naked Gun was based on and easily the funniest tv show of its time) was canceled is legitimately insane and one of the most egregious examples of TV malpractice I’ve ever heard:

Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.
"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions
the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

GPT would have been such a great technology if LLMs were just used to augment search engines. Their natural language processing ability means they can find relevant content no matter how you phrase your query. No more keyword matching, just ask a question, or describe what you’re looking for. 1/2

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

You need to understand that when studio heads and executives talk about how AI is going to streamline the process and make things cheaper, this is the process that they've been normalizing up until now.
