It sounds like they ultimately arrested someone, which sucks, but if it takes 5+ hours and a team of 30 for each arrest, that’s a lot fewer court cases to fight, a lot fewer gofundmes to split our support, and a lot more intact families.
I keep saying we all need to be sand in their gears

10:00am ICE chased a guy to an apartment building. Crowd gathered. Rapid response arrived. By 3:30pm 30 agents there, & used chem munitions & gassed the n’hood*

5 hours
Eventually 30 agents
1 guy

Neighbors & rapid response were sand in the gears
Happening right now. Community members in Elgin, IL are in a standoff with Feds who are trying to abduct their neighbor.

ERO guy in picture on left just peppered sprayed person I screencapped.

They’re roving surveillance machines. The reason all the Waymo’s in LA got set on fire during riots is because people knew that they’d turn any footage over to the feds. So, we don’t want them here for that reason alone. The feds are bad enough as it is, they don’t need yet another set of cameras.
Robotaxis are quietly recording everything, and police are using the footage
In April, the Los Angeles Police Department released video footage captured by a Waymo robotaxi as part of a hit-and-run investigation (below). The brief and grainy clip...

Chicago is trying to ban hemp-based drinks that have been selling great and not causing any problems.

If you oppose this ban, write your alderman!

Proposed ordinance could outlaw hemp products in Chicago before federal ban next year
Ald. Marty Quinn (13th) is pushing to limit hemp product sales to cannabis dispensaries, potentially kneecapping a massive Illinois industry months before a federal ban takes effect.

This is really interesting because it’s not the same problem as Gilmore girls / Buffy / friends / simpsons, since the original episode was already in 1.78 so there was no need to adjust the aspect ratio for the remaster—rather they didn’t digitally remove the crew like they did for the original…
HBOMax has started showing a 'remastered' 4K Mad Men and they’ve messed things up so during Roger’s oyster vomit scene you can now see the crew men with the vomit hose on the right

The proposed Chicago city budget has a $5 million line item for a ShotSpotter replacement. Abandoning this failed pursuit would free up the funds needed to maintain 2025 funding levels at our city libraries, which would still leave the libraries underfunded but would avoid disastrous proposed cuts.

And to be clear, the mayor's 2026 proposal is not just a "no police cuts" budget -- it's a budget in which CPD (already the city's most expensive dept. by far) received a larger year-over-year net increase of non-grant funds than any other dept.

Larger than most other departments' entire budgets!

Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.

It’s strikes me that perhaps the savvy way to manage upward against executives that are too excited about AI is to claim they you have too much technical debt to use it properly and to take the AI funds and use them to solve some of your existing problems.
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.
