Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

Can't overstate how radicalized rank-and-file suburban Dems are becoming watching all of this happen - I know septuagenarians going to their first protest since the Vietnam War, and the line of abolishing ICE and prosecuting regime collaborators is pretty standard now
every smug internet communist tweet about showing up to a No Kings protest with an abolish ICE shirt to scare the libs is getting completely mogged by the real-life winemoms showing up with slogans like "ICE will melt in hell"

This photo accompanying a news story about the heist at the Louvre is perfection.
Did your autocorrect perhaps change "tricorner" to "strictness"?

Student media rules. They are lapping a lot of the spineless media orgs this year and showing how solidarity is the way.

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) at the Boston No Kings rally today, wore the trans pride flag like a scarf draped over his shoulders and included in his speech. "Because here in Massachusetts, we stand for what is right. We stand with trans people because trans rights are human rights."

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

cops tackling and marching off with a giant penis, Kristi Noem menacing a chicken she swears is antifa, feds pepper-spraying a frog

ridicule is an extremely effective protest tactic and foil for authoritarianism
Well, you can finally cross “I’ve seen a handcuffed, inflatable penis” off your bucket list

I saw a tragically AI-generated version of this poster, so I have recreated a 100% human-made version for all your protest sign needs.

not only does Gary Larson still have the juice, it seems to have only gotten stronger
In this hypothetical, you aren't lying, but you are having to put on a performance so that your intent is correctly communicated.
Autistic people (among others) often learn that "natural reactions" get you disbelieved and ignored. Bc maybe your legitimate, honest sad face is 🫤, but if you say "I'm seriously depressed 🫤" nobody believes you. You have to "fake" being sad 😢 for others to understand your genuine underlying emotion
My literal first game of Among Us, I was crew but wasn't "acting normally" bc I didn't know the map. I was immediately labeled suspicious and when I (honestly) said "I've never played this game before" ppl said "yeah right we've all heard that one" and voted me out.

So I feel you for sure.

This is how Andrew Cuomo thinks we should respond to authoritarianism.

Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"

glad to see this "study" is being debunked, but I want to point out the double bind at work behind the scenes here: for years, anti-trans activists pointed to any increases as signs of "social contagion" (read: these kids aren't "really trans"). but then, if or when the numbers ever go down...
Recreational drugs in food/drink form, including alcohol and caffeine, should have full nutritional labels and ingredient + allergen lists like regular food, except with amount(s) of drug(s) in a big black box at the top of the nutrition label in addition to other legally required labeling
