A big update: Now that I’ve got some freelance contracts going again, I’m very much Open for Business! If you need a writer for a gaming feature, a pop-culture interview, a mock review or other games-industry consulting gig, a Star Wars expert or Fallout S2 recapper, my email is [email protected].
Some print work from my previous freelance days: an issue of PC Gamer with Cyberpunk on the cover, my book on the making of BioWare, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, an issue of Edge magazine, Fangoria issue number 2 (which contains my oral history of Friday the 13th: The Game), and Den of Geek.

Apparently the new Splinter Cell animated series is out now on Netflix. I've missed this guy.
Ubisoft email says Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Sam Fisher is back, with a grizzled spy wearing nightvision goggles and wielding a silenced handgun. A few other characters, including two female operatives, are painted underneath him, as well as some masked armed troopers.

Ah, damn. The best of the best. His posters for Attack of the Clones, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, and The Empire Strikes Back were all fixtures on the walls of my childhood bedroom—from 1998 till the day my folks sold the house.
Attack of the Clones one-sheet, Drew Struzan. Return of the Jedi Special Edition one-sheet, Drew Struzan.

Happy #PortfolioDay! I’ve been writing for and about video games since 2013, and I’m looking to pick up more freelance work in November. If you need someone to do dialogue or flavor text, or somebody to help out with PR for your upcoming game, let’s chat!

Key art for Astoria, an original sci-fi Twine game, by Kelly Chong. An astronaut against a space backdrop with rings and a futuristic cityscape. An Ashlander camp in Skywind, the massive Morrowind fan remake mod. Illustration from the oral history of Morrowind, with an adventurer looking at an elven building on the horizon. Some books and magazines, including my book on the making of Star Wars: KotOR, Fangoria, PC Gamer, Edge, and Den of Geek.

The folks over at @videogameschronicle.com dropped a huge interview with Hip Tanaka, going over some of his legendary music that helped shape the industry.

We cannot overstate what a honor it is to work with such a legend on #AWAYSIS. We can't wait for you to hear the soundtrack.

For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.

In many ways, Z-A's new combat is like Xenoblade lite. In that spirit, here's the genre nerd perspective and review:

Much like Pokemon Legends: Arceus before it, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a bold and unorthodox take on the series' formula, and yet more proof that Pokemon is better when it pushes the boundaries of what a Pokemon game can be. Our review: https://www.rpgsite.net/review/18695-pokemon-legends-z-a-review

"We have an economy where a handful of modern-day robber barons wield extraordinary power. They hold enormous control over our paychecks, our bills, our time, and our futures.

Fun announcement!

I was lucky enough to get to contribute essays to these two gorgeous Hammer releases for THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN and SCARS OF DRACULA for StudioCanal— Hammer has been a love/obsession of mine for quite sometime and this is an absolute dream come true!
StudioCanal 4K release of THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN featuring red and green artwork of the monster as it looms amidst the brush. StudioCanal 4K release of SCARS OF DRACULA featuring red-hued artwork of Dracula descending on his unsuspecting prey.

Prey Is the Best and Most Intimate Predator Movie in Years
Dan Trachtenberg takes the Predator franchise back to its roots with a compelling setting, a great lead character, and some killer action.

I haven't played Mafia 2 yet, so I'm half tempted to just go through them all chronologically after this. Love having Rockstar-style games that aren't 60 hours long!
