It's my birthday!

And, becasue I'm me, I now want to write more tiny stories after catching up with ones I owed. So yes, let's do this thing.

Leave me a prompt of some kind and get a tiny story in exchange.

(Optional themes: trick or treat, or secrets and confessions)

My friend Penelope Wren has a new book out! I'm a little biased because I made the cover, but I think it looks pretty good! If you like:
- Witches
- Vampires
- Why choose
- Librarians

You might want to check it out! Free to read for KU: www.amazon.com/dp/B0FS74B261
Marked by fangs
Scarred by blood
Claimed by herself
A book cover for Bitten and Burned by Penelope Wren; red roses on a green background. A silver pendant with a red stone on a silver chain is intertwined with the title text.

I can enjoy the ambient stuff, it is v pleasant and atmospheric, but yeah "sort of just there" is a v apt description
sentencebender.bsky.social
Yeah, and I made peace with that, and knew it would be its own thing, I just hoped it could achieve a similar level of synthesis with the visuals and storytelling, which it did not.

Eh, this felt enough like NIN's ambient / instrumental albums that they could definitely have fucked it up all on their own.

I'm a Nine Inch Nails fan, so the thing I was *most* excited for in TRON:ARES was the score. And honestly? It was okay. It wasn't great. It wasn't anywhere near as good as the TRON:LEGACY score. Didn't make me feel anything. Didn't have a single melody; just loops. Probably fun to work out to tho.
sentencebender.bsky.social
I have a lot of complaints about TRON: ARES, but my primary one is that Jodie Turner-Smith should have played the title character.

Hard same on Bradbury. The Golden Age Guys have some awesome ideas and mostly can handle pacing and plot… but they have no ear for human speech, no sense of poetry, and very little interest in people who aren’t white dudes. It’s permissible when you’re a kid. As an adult, it’s hard to stick with.

That's super helpful, thank you.

I can roll with a fair degree of sentimental breathlessness; I suppose slop is in the eye of the beholder. I've been meaning to read Cordwainer Smith for a while; where do you think is the best place to start?

One of my favorite Bradbury quotes, from "Zen in the Art of Writing," is: "We never sit anything out. We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out."
