Per Reddit: Steam adult developer in the UK is sitting on a USD equivalent of six figures, can’t find a bank to take his money because the developer creates adult games

I develop adult video games on Steam. I can't find a bank that will actually let me withdraw my money from Steam. Can I get some advice?
Game has sold quite well on Steam. I've got almost £90,000 ready to withdraw after Steam's cut + VAT taken off.

However, it's been 2 months now and I can't find ANY bank in the UK who will let me withdraw my money from Steam. I've been banned/refused/unable to get a business account with:

Wise
Revolut
Monzo
Monese
Chase
Starling
Nationwide
Halifax
Barclays
Lloyds
RBS

It always comes down to, "Where did you get this money from?"

"It's coming from games I sell on Steam."

"Can we see the store page?"

"Sure."

"I'm sorry, we can't do business with you at this time."

It keeps coming down to a commercial decision purely because I make adult content.

What the hell am I supposed to do? I've pretty much exhausted the whole banking system. I just want to be able to be paid for products I've sold.

I find his style fairly tiresome, but something I don't is how disinterested Ian Fleming is in describing the vast majority of his cast, including his protagonist. It's a great instinct that only evaporates, sadly, when he's clearly got the horn

James May's rebirth as a YouTuber that goes on little adventures & undertakes new hobbies with his gen z video producer who he has a really warm sort of student/teacher relationship with is really quite lovely

the person setting the budgets at gf/tpc

no company includes marketing in its base reported budget anyway. In an internal presentation they'd be separately posted, as they're separate lines of the business. You sometimes get a combined cost publicised in the media tho.

wild thing to see completely out of context

what about the last 20 years of this franchise has showed agility lmao
apzonerunner.com
the most interesting thing in it is the budgets, which are breathtaking and probably go a ways to explaining how those games ship. If this is correct Z-A cost less than half of Expedition 33 while coming from a company with an operating profit last yr of $400 million lmao

jokes aside, can you imagine how you would handle it if you asked a human assistant "did you make all this up instead of actually doing any of the work", and that person responded to you with "good catch"

Shared row data file with GPT5 to analyze, the result KPIs were crazy, so I naively asked, and innocently it responded.

Jenny Nicholson tweet continues to not miss
@JennyENicholson

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

I feel like all of the Mega Games/Comp carts have little rhyme or reason to them except for a few like the Sonic Mega Pack - truly random selections every time.

I genuinely narratively/thematically think TA might be one of the most interesting FF games. FF often buries ledes like this (like one of the series' outright best protagonists being in Crystal Bearers lol)
apzonerunner.com
And the big debate: Some just want to get home. Others prefer living this new fantasy - including the protagonist's sickly wheelchair-bound brother, who is able-bodied and strong in Ivalice. The stage is set: is the protagonist right to want to want to end the dream & 'force' everybody to go home?

I realize a lot of people haven't played FFTA, to, in brief: an isekai (before that was trendy!) about a group of IRL-ish kids who are fans Final Fantasy who end up 'transported' to Ivalice (in a way. it's complicated). It asks interesting questions about fandom, escapism in media, etc.

I agree they took the edges off too much tbh. GBA audience I suppose
apzonerunner.com
Yeah. It's an interesting critique of fandom in general, and imo has only gotten more interesting considering it released at the advent of the 'modern' age of hyper-fixated internet-driven fandom.

It's a close thing, but I actually think I prefer FFTA to FFT, and I think that its very simple and straight moral play is more compelling & invigorating than the labyrinthine brilliance of FFT. Which is why people still argue vehemently about if Marche was right or not
apzonerunner.com
Seeing all this FFT love, nostalgia, and discovery warms my heart... but also utterly makes me pine for FFTA. Especially when talking about reflections on childhood through the prism of FF, something which TA does better than pretty much any other entry.

It wouldn’t be a FF game without people sitting and reminiscing about their childhood

The thing that really showcases how good Keaton's career was is the sheer range of her movies being quoted in the headlines of her obituaries. You'd think every one would lead with Godfather or Annie Hall -- but I've even seen outlets include neither. A legend
apzonerunner.com
It sucks. Though at least she has Kay - still movies huge with all generations - and I still think that role is an understated work of total brilliance. Esp in 2.

I think of prison nonce bashing as a very proud British tradition tbh and I can't believe it took this long. anyway, good riddance
