I'm happy to share that I've joined @kentucky.com as their new Lexington Government Reporter! It's a big change, but familiar territory - I am way too committed to this beat to go too far.

If you have any news tips, story ideas, or just want to chat, please reach out at [email protected].
It was a fun surprise to see that Friday's print edition featured my first front-page story!

Lextran, thanks to advocacy from local faith group BUILD, has been talking about microtransit for a few years now.

As Council was discussing funding a microtransit pilot with Lextran, a United Way program that connects people with free Lyft rides entered the chat.

Governor Beshear joined a lawsuit against Trump for limiting how much federal homelessness money given to communities can be spent on housing.

Currently in Lex, 92% of that money is spent on permanent supportive housing. The Trump proposal would cap that to 30%.

LFUCG entered a $1 mill contract with Undue Medical Debt to forgive up to $90 million in residents' medical debt.

Nearly 34% of that $1 mill goes to admin costs for the nonprofit. Mayor Linda Gorton cited those high costs as a reason she opposed the partnership.

no, I've never had a pie as good as a cheesecake because some pies are good and cheesecake is uniformly awful
I get a lot of hate for this view and in turn I'd only ask if you've ever had a pie as good as a typical cheesecake. The answer is no, you have not. Cheesecake invalidates the whole pie category. Hell, regular cake barely survives the cheesecake onslaught on the strength of carrot cake alone.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

It's time to end the arguments, they've gone on much too long. Here is the definitive ranking of Star Wars:

1. Star Wars (film, 1977)
2. Star Wars (comic book series, 1977-present)
3. Star Wars (video game, 1983)
4. Star Wars (novelisation, 1976)
5. Star Wars (proposed missile defence system, 1983)
