Hong Kong fire and Grenfell are just alike. Fire spreading through unsafe building materials installed due to penny-pinching, killing dozens. One difference: before the HK fire is even out three executives at contractors have been arrested, eight years after Grenfell no-one has been arrested.

This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

this week indie studio santa ragione announced that it's on the verge of closure after steam blocked the release of its upcoming provocative art game, horses. valve, despite all of its algorithms and purposefully vague policyspeak, is once again telling us exactly where it stands

I'm trying to get the dogs to settle next to my desk, but in order to do that I have to keep typing because they know if I'm typing it is a signal I won't cuddle them, but if I stop typing even for a SECOND then they look at me with sad spaniel eyes and sigh loudly.

I am convinced a large part of the crusade against universities as hot beds of leftwing bias and sedition is because people like Goodwin feel the need to make Nobody Wants To Be My Friend an 'its everyone else's fault!' issue
With every outright racist things he says I think back to his former students and colleagues at a pretty diverse university who had to work with someone who clearly did not respect or value them.

oh yes I should have said in my post earlier, my audio book has made _me_ £2550 in three years, publishers take their cut first.
Oh one thing I should add is that earning out an advance on royalties is not the same as the book being profitable to your publisher; those are different numbers, but they are frequently conflated in these discussions. Ok done. Thank you!

The abolition of the two-child benefit cap, which punishes children for their parents' circumstances, is the best part of the budget, potentially lifting almost half a million children out of poverty.

It may also be the part that comes under fiercest attack. So it needs celebrating and defending.
And the two child benefit limit is abolished. An enormous victory for those who have campaigned tirelessly for eight long years through successive governments. This will lift at least 450,000 children out of poverty. Fewer kids will be hungry. No more women forced to disclose their rape.
