Hiking in PA this week we came across what looks like attempts to redirect a stream. Logs secured by rebar lined the stream, and this kind of upstream-facing V occurred in a few places. I assume it’s to help direct the water as it drops down?

I don’t know why some of my favorites don’t appear more in my feed, but I wish accounts like Grant’s would show up more.

I learned some things today, at almost 50 years old. Not least of which is that Pippi was by a Swedish author! Now I want to read the stories again… and the original!

False friends are often wrongly called false cognates. These are very different things.
