Attention, derrière toi, un singe à trois têtes !
And still, we're there fighting for the oil.
We should be fighting AGAINST the oil.
Send a fucking missile into each and every refinery, oil well, and whatnot.
Propergol are GHG free, after all.
Here's an update on Arcitc sea-ice extent, which is still at a record low for the date, about 180,000 square kilometers below the previous record daily low set just last year.

This isn't going to end well.

It's not that "the Internet" is worse or "enshittified" or whatnot. That's just clinging to the belief that the Internet is special and separate from the "real world".

The world is being made worse by capitalism in a massive way.

And the reality is that we *cannot* say that we “are” headed to 2.5 of heating. Full stop.

I know it can be UNBEARABLE to hold this knowledge right now — and it’s very hard to see how to have hope in this dark — but we have to remain poised to grab the next political opportunity to turn this ship around, which we won’t be ready to do if we think THIS what we have now is “progress.”

Look around you. Do you see policies being implemented at scale? Do you see the end of investment into new fossil energy? Do you see phasing out of existing fossil infrastructure? Do you see massive renewables deployment and the lowering of demand for energy and materials?

You do not.

The projections of warming by 2100 that encourage people to say reassuring shit like this are *estimates of emissions* that take current pledges and policies into account. They ALL posit that emissions will bed sharply down, and soon.

On the 10th Anniversary of the Paris Agreement, you’re going to hear a lot about the progress we’ve made — people saying we “are” heading to 2.5 degrees heating instead of four.

I deeply regret to tell you that this is complacent misinformation.

The University of Nebraska is closing their statistics department. Especially if you're all in on AI this is so short-sighted. It's like launching the first spacecraft into outer space and being like "welp time to close astrophysics and rocketry and only teach classes on buckling up your seat belts"

Il y a onze ans, après mon retour de dix mois de calvaire dans les geôles de Daech en Syrie, Fayard me contacte pour m'offrir de publier mon témoignage.

J'accepte.

That's an inconvenient truth.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.

Ca me parait encore optimiste. Les guerres precedentes ont eu fonction de relance economique, de transformation industrielle, toussa (le capitalisme porte la fuerre comme la nuée porte l'orage). Mais la, on est face a l'epuisement des ressources naturelles et au changement climatique.

No surprise that the nuclear industry is undermining renewable energy in the US. They’ve been doing that in France for a long time.

The once unlikely partnership’s influence now reaches right into the White House, where President Trump wants to ban certain renewable projects.

Which makes me think, you know what is in space and only cools out throught outgoing radiation ? Earth.
And that is godamn good reason not to mess with its radiative transmittance by, let's say, dumping fuckloads of CO2 in its atmosphere.
You underestimate the heat problem, which is far worse. Computation generates a lot of waste heat, and in a vacuum neither conductive nor convective cooling is available. Only radiative, and, well, the math on that is "not conducive" to a datacenter.
