We went to the neighbors and all their lights were on, so.
She opened the door in a nightgown and a mink coat, drunk as hell. She had no idea it was Halloween so she wrote us all $5 checks
When I was like 8 and trick or treating one guy in a dapper suit opened the door and looked baffled by the very concept of trick or treaters, he turned to a bowl on a table and gave us each a handful of loose change. Almost four decades later and I’m still thinking about that eccentric king.
In 6 years of living here we've never had a trick or treater so we stopped buying candy but I got one last night so I gave him $5 then went to bed cause that's all the cash I had on me

If you thought masked, unidentified federal agents grabbing people off the street were a frightening step toward dystopia, wait until it's private contractors chasing cash bonuses for rounding up human beings at scale
ICE is planning to offer private sector bounty hunters cash bonuses for quickly tracking down the home addresses of immigrants across the US, according to a DHS document I reviewed. ICE encourages potential contractors to use "all technology systems available.” theintercept.com/2025/10/31/i...

if you're replacing smoke detector batteries and/or testing alarms today i recommend making a note of where your pets go when the alarms are going off

in an actual emergency they'll likely hide in the same spot
there was nothing like the present internet for research, and my encyclopedia didn’t cover this.
I learned some valuable lessons that day and through most of the week.

USAID pulled out of Sudan in July. A loss of over a billion in humanitarian assistance. Now this.
“Individuals on the ground sent a message that reached us Monday morning that 1,200 were dead,” Nathaniel Raymond, the lab’s executive director, said. “By that evening, they said 10,000. By Tuesday, we couldn’t reach them anymore. We assume our ground contacts are dead.”

Hemingway is a hack. He needed 6 words to tell a sad story when yoi clearly only need 3.
Toothpaste as lube.
What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done? I don’t mean “cheating on your partner” stupid, I mean stupid stupid. Like, once, I had this bubble bath which smelled absolutely delicious, so I took a big glug of it. That kind of stupid. (It did not taste delicious.)

New from me: As Flock Safety cameras proliferate across the US, creating a real-time national database on Americans' movements for police, people in cities like Austin, Denver and Sedona are pushing back.
Police cameras track billions of license plates per month. Communities are pushing back.
More than 5,000 law enforcement departments across the U.S. use interconnected Flock Safety cameras to track residents’ movements.
